There's an article on this from a site that attempts to extort money from us for their content, and even during the "free samples" they give you, you have to click to uncover the article. So I'm not gonna post the link, because that's F'n annoying.

Jones’ improvement culminated Sunday with his most productive game in the NFL. The former UCLA defensive end, drafted No. 26 in 2013, had two sacks, five quarterback hurries and a batted pass against the Minnesota Vikings. It was only the second time in Jones’ career he had two sacks in a game.

It might be no coincidence Jones’ outburst came in his first game rushing as an outside linebacker, standing up in a two-point stance. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers started using Jones as an edge rusher the previous week against the Detroit Lions, and Jones responded with what was a season-high three quarterback hurries.

Dude weighs a bit much for a regular OLB, but I think he'd make a great elephant type guy. You just don't want him in coverage. Then again I'm sure he runs better than Neal. lol

The Packers are using Jones similar to the way they rush outside linebacker Julius Peppers. He’s still an interior rusher in dime packages, but now Jones rushes from the exterior in the base 3-4 defense. He also has the flexibility to alternate between two- and three-point stances, much like Peppers.

I like Datone. He wasn't on my draft board, because he's a tweener, but Dom, like Mike on offense has decided that he's not even gonna TRY to to brain to brain with OCs, so he actually likes having tweeners, so that he's never actually got the "wrong" guys on the field. (The drawback of course being he's never actually got the "right" guys out there either.)

But it sounds like they're actually beginning to utilize the guys that they have. It's refreshing to see these coaches put their players in a position to succeed like that. I think Datone and Nick Perry can be very effective.

The move worked. He had one of his most productive games of the season. Keep the rotation going.

Datone is actually a pretty damn good fit for a 7-tech 4-3 power defensive end. He's athletic but not a speed rusher. Undersized a little bit inside, but strong enough and disruptive at the point to deal with RTs.

I'm not surprised he's flourishing there.

Also -- HE'S HEALTHY. Makes a big difference.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Nick Perry, Datone Jones, Mike Daniels, B.J. Raji....the Packers have alot of players they're going to have to pay the next couple of years. It'll be hard replacing any of them atleast not quickly. We'll draft Perry or Raji's replacement but it'll be 2-3 years before they give us their kind of production again.

Ink Jones to an extension right now, don't let him blow up like Daniels and take the team to the bank. If he can play a little OLB even better, I have the utmost respect for Peppers but after this season his playing time may go elsewhere unless he comes back on a more team friendly deal.

We're gonna need a real bookend for Clay.

We might see Datone in a role like Peppers is in (and Jenkins was while they played in the 4-3)... as an outside edge rusher on run downs and an inside guy on passing downs. It might work long term.
