Sounds like a great idea, and something Ron Wolf might have pulled off.
Thompson, instead, will continue to squander the careers of Aaron Rodgers and Clay Mathews while he endlessly searches for that diamond in the rough.

Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers overlapped for three years.
Mike Holmgren bailed on the Packers after 1998.
Bob Harlan went against his better judgement and gave GM and HC roles to one person.

Brett wasn't even elite until about 1994 if you wanna be generous and he had some pretty awful seasons. I would say he gave us elite quarterback play in 10 of 16 seasons and again, that is being very generous. He had two GM's and three HC's and several OC's and quarterback coaches.

1992 - 1998: Ron Wolf + Mike Holmgren + Brett Favre
1999: Ron Wolf + Ray Rhodes + Brett Favre
2000: Ron Wolf + Mike Sherman + Brett Favre
2001 - 2004: Ted Thompson + Mike Sherman + Brett Favre
2005: Ted Thompson + Mike Sherman + Brett Favre
2006 - current: Ted Thompson + Mike McCarthy + Aaron Rodgers

That's six different GM+HC+QB combinations over 23 years with 3 super bowl appearances and 2 trophies.

If Holmgren stays around, we have another trophy or two in the case.

The failure was replacing Holmgren with Rhodes and Sherman. That really screwed us over with the benefit of hindsight of course, lol.

You can't say because a QB turned out to be elite that he was elite the moment he donned a uniform. That would be presumptuous.

Brett gave us about 10 elite QB play years, which is a LOT. Aaron Rodgers has given us close to 5 elite years of elite QB play.

That all being said, 15 combined years of having an elite QB and only 2 super bowl trophies just shows how incredibly difficult it is to win a Super Bowl and more reason we should APPRECIATE the success we have instead of being whine-asses about not winning every game of every season.

Over the last 50 seasons, many HOF players never even made it to a SB. Some made it there just once(Dan Moreno, Walter Payton, and many others). Yes, one player can make all the difference, but one player is not a TEAM. Great teams like the 60's Packers, the 70's Steelers, the 80's 49ers, the 90's Cowboys, the 2000's Patriots and even the 72 Dolphins or the 85 Bears won and are remembered because they were more than just one player.

The Packers have been blessed with back to back HOF QB's. I too would like to see them winning more SB's while we remain blessed. IMO, the Packers offense has not been the reason that the Packers have not won more SB's over the last 20+ years.

As someone once said, "Offense wins games, but Defense wins championships".

The GM isn't what cost us the season last year.

But yeah, we should definitely have more.

Something to consider when thinking we "should" have more is that it isn't just our team...it's everyone else as well. We might have a great season but someone might get hot in the playoffs, or it might just be anther team's year. Was ANYONE going to stop Seattle a couple years ago? Or the Saints in the year they put it all together? Think about the injuries at the end of the year and in the playoffs in 97. No DL and they have Terrel Davis.

It's a tricky thing to win multiple Super Bowls with the parity in the league over the last couple decades. The best you can do is be in the argument every year, which we pretty much are. A lot has to go right both with our team and with things outside of our control for it all to come together.

beast (35m) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (36m) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (37m) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (4h) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (5h) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (5h) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (7h) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (7h) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (7h) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (9h) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (11h) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (17h) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (18h) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (18h) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (18h) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Game not over yet
beast (19h) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (19h) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (19h) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (20h) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21h) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21h) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21h) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21h) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : TD but another failed 2 pt conversion!
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Ravens still alive, but barely
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Or not...BUT THAT CATCH BY NACUA
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : WE MAY HAVE BEEN PREMATURE KANATA
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Time to make dinner
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Ouch!!!! Dagger for the Eagles
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : DAGGER
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : pass plays
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Seems some of their passes are too deep. Reminds me of MLF as well.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oren Burks with a clutch pass break up...I will now light myself on fire
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : a run on 2nd down and 17 from McVay? So that's where MLF gets it from!
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Do or die time for the Rams
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking field goals are impressive
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oh that might be a backbreaker
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : That's what I thought too, just wasn't sure
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking doesn't make much sense
