Congrats to your son on his promotion. What sucks is now he will have to be the one asking those questions in the future.

Glad he is doing alright though. Enjoy your time with him on his leave!

I have on many occasions. He does appreciate it. No snappy comebacks are given. He has had people thanking him for a few years. At first it was hard for him to accept as he had not "done anything". I talked to him about that a lot. It helped that his grandfather served in Germany during the Koran War so I was able to ask him if his service was any less honorable than the men who were stationed in Korea. I asked him about the soldiers who were stationed in camps around the US during WWII and Korea, do we look down on them? When he told me no then I was able to tell him that his service has been no less honorable.
He finally decided to accept the thanks and well wishes from strangers for all those who had been overseas.
Now that he is there himself he really does appreciate everyone's thanks and prayers.

WPR - Nice read.

I have never served, but have heard from family and friends who have that the military is a lot of bureaucracy. This confirms it.

Very funny. I'm glad he seems to be doing ok and hope his finger gets better.

I'm incredibly bad at extending condolances or sympathy to people with loved ones over seas. Whenever I try, I get so cold and numb inside. So let me just say . . . I look forward to the day when your anxiety and heartache are soothed by the embrace of your son.

And yet I can still remember when he was 10 yrs old and couldn't push the lawnmower. He was so skinny he didn't have any muscles and our lawn is pretty rough terrain with a hill on one end of it.
He sat down on the grass and started to cry. I sat down next to him and explained to him that he was only going to get stronger and I was going get weaker. Within 10 years he was going to be stronger than me.
It seemed hard for him to understand at the time.
How time flies.

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired

buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
