If you feel it's too risky 2 weeks from now, then it's asinine to think 1 week from now is safer. He hurt this diving...no contact with another player. The ground isn't made of pillows in Chicago...he could just hit someone's shoulder funny and reaggrevate it.

The Bears may not be the Seahawks, but they're not 95 pound horse jockeys either. You can't predict the form of contact that will get you hurt...the ground, incidental bump in the field, a hard tackle, or targetting. That could all happen no matter who the opponent is.

Sorry, asinine was too strong a word, I'm not trying to sound cranky. Anyway, even as a decoy, it may take one bump, one jam at the line to jar that.

I've often read the easiest way to get hurt in football is to play at half speed. If we're just tinkering with him out there I don't think it helps his injury or ultimately the team.

If he is legitimately cleared to play by doctors/ATs then fire away, I have no issues. However, if he's iffy, it's just not worth the risk, and I think the Packers will feel the same way.

As for playing half speed, I fully agree and Randall Cobb would not know he's a decoy for that exact reason. Aaron Rodgers is pretty smart and if he has Cobb and James Jones open, toss it to Jones.

You can't predict the risk you'll face when you line up, even if he's just a decoy. Additionally, I don't know what it means to be a decoy. The Bears will figure out in about 1 play if he's able to play/catch or not. How does a WR who can't play to his full potential distract a defense?

I don't mean to keep picking at this, I'm just not seeing your side of this - even though in every other instance I think you're a genius that created the best Packers' website in the land (or virtual land) 🤣

I'm w/ ya 100% here Dakota! Except "dumbasses" simply isnt strong enough.

The only way this makes sense is if, it was a grade 1 sprain, which takes 2-3 weeks, the shoulder is healed and stable and this brace is just a little insurance that he doesn't hurt it again. If this is a grade 2 or worse; its 6 weeks or longer to heal and no brace I know of can stabilize the shoulder from a direct hit. But hopefully the Bears and Hawks will be cognizant of his injury and wont hit Randell up high. Ya that could happen.

If Cobb plays the next two games w/ an unstable AC joint he has a .000001% chance of not being DONE FOR THE YEAR. Hell Seattle will take a couple of 15 yarders for a cheap shot; Chancellor may come back to camp just to try to collect the bounty on Cobb.

Steve correctly said in another thread, there's 100 guys like Myles White; only problem is the other 99 will need 1/2 seasons to a year to learn our playbook. So consider this my official White watch thread, though I like that Julian Talley dude as well, ya know for another 1 of 100 dude that could contribute in a week or 2.

This isn't a splinter in his thumb or a boo boo on his bum. It's an injury that could inhibit functionality and certainly risk further damage.

To me, this is how I would handle it.
Dress Cobb. Keep him on the sidelines, and ONLY use him if the Packers get behind and have to use him.
If you don't need him, then he gets another week of rest.

Problem w/ Cobb being a decoy is that as we know the D gets to hit the WR within about 7-8 yards [5 yards by rule]. A press coverage technique is to ā€œpunch;ā€ use two open palms and thrust them forward forcefully into the WR’s midsection to stall his momentum and ā€œshockā€ him. I fear they will ā€œpunchā€ Cobb in the injured shoulder. The downside to doing this is that the CB would lose his center of balance on the WR allowing the WR to use the natural leverage of the CB’s momentum going toward right shoulder to ā€œswimā€ past the CB to gain easy separation to the left. But if Cobb’s a decoy he don’t get the ball anyways.

On a run play or pass play to another; even if Cobb don’t block; the guy covering him will be hitting the shoulder.

Hell with the effing Seattle sociopaths I can see a gunner on punt coverage running down the GB sideline pretend to trip and hit Cobb’s shoulder, while he’s standing next to Van Pelt talking.

Cobb’s well being for the season can only be served if the shoulder is stable or he’s inactive. Or again the other possibility: he is wearing some sort of metal bionic brace that makes it impossible for the AC joint to further separate even if Cobb is run over by a steam roller. Maybe it means he can’t grab a ball over his head; but as a catcher, a decoy, a blocker he’d have value and the risk of re-injury is no greater than anyone else playing without the brace.
