Swing and a miss.. but not because of anything but home.. next..

Mobile, Ala. - Personal reasons kept the Green Bay Packers from adding another member to their coaching staff.

Much like Gregg Williams, who turned down Mike McCarthy's offer to be the Packers' defensive coordinator to take the same job with the New Orleans Saints, veteran defensive line coach Bill Johnson said Wednesday he chose the Saints over the Packers for family reasons.

"It was as simple as that, really it was," Johnson said at the Senior Bowl. "I can't tell you how impressed I was with the entire operation they have up there in Green Bay. But in the end, New Orleans was a better fit."

Johnson said that both his grown children live in Atlanta. He also is a Louisiana native (Neville) and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La.

"At this point in your life, it's really hard to pass up going home," Johnson said.

Williams also opted for the Saints because of his family's preference for the South. The Packers ultimately hired Dom Capers on Monday as defensive coordinator.

The Packers have interviewed former St. Louis Rams defensive line coach Brian Baker for the vacancy in recent days.

Rams defensive line coach?
Would that be a good thing? The Rams haven't been that notable as of late.

If Herm Edwards gets the ax, I'd like to see Green Bay bring in Tim Krumrie, the Chiefs' defensive line coach.

Wisconsin borne and bred, I think he'd love a chance to be a coach for the Pack. Quite the D-lineman back in the day.

I just saw where the Pack has added John Rushing out of the college ranks where he coached CB's. He was Bush's coach when he was in college.

Don't know much about him other than he was the only assistant to be retained from the previous staff by the HC that came in.

I believe it was Utah.

Well if John Rushing was Jarret Bush's coach, he didn't do a very good job coaching him, haha. I'm kidding.

So I guess he's our CBs coach?

The Packers will annouce Darren Perry as the Defensive Backs coach (any day now). He played 8 seasons with the Steelers (starting safety), coached DBs in Cincinnati (under LeBeau), coached in Pittsburgh and in Oakland the past 2 years. Perry has a relationship with Capers as well. This is a done deal!

NFL Buzz: Packers Interested In Former Steelers LB Kevin Greene

We are hearing that McCarthy is considering bringing in former NFL All-Pro Linebacker Kevin Greene to coach/tutor the Packers linebackers. Greene was an outstanding outside linebacker that played 3 years with the Steelers and he also played for Dom Capers with the Carolina Panthers. He has assisted the Steelers and Dolphins during training camps since retiring from the NFL.

from the same website link as above post.

Sounds like McCarthy is letting Capers bring in his own guys.

Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
