Our front 7 will continue to be shit as it has been during most of Dom's tenure.

Don't kid yourself, it won't change.

Let's consider this as a possibility, the LB's are ALL cross training and for the following reasons.

1) To make it easier to fill in should a starter go down.

2) As a new defensive twist, LB's will switch positions from play to play in order to confuse opponents and/or to defense an opponents tendencies.

3) To reveal which LB's play best at different positions.

4) All of the above

Aaron Ripkowski should be moved from FB to LB... per reports, he's been pedestrian as a FB but the guy is a tackling machine on ST's. He played LB in HS along with DE and G. He's a little short at 6'1 but 246-257 as he's been listed various places is about right. Put him in the middle. Runs about 4.7 so he can hang in the middle. Looks like he runs well enough on ST's.

Obviously, knows how to take on blocks as a FB and would have to do that plenty with our DL in front of him.

He looks like a LB to me.

It still baffles how we can keep playing a linebacker's defense with such mediocrity at the position. It's probably indicative of never sniffing a top ten ranking, and will continue to be why we can't sniff the Super Bowl.

More like the coaching staff is taking it easy with Matthews. When the regular season starts, I think Clay will pick up where he left off - playing mostly inside and occasionally outside.

Are my old eyes deceiving me, or have I seen Mulumba, Hubbard, etc. - OLBs moving inside in certain sets?

I have always liked this Capers kind of "keep 'em guessing" type of D. It got us through some times of poor personnel; Now that arguably, the talent level is better, doing the same switching should maximize the benefit.

You confuse them with scheme, which, we kinda suck at.
