Wide receiver Jeff Janishasn’t made the performance jump that the Green Bay Packers hoped he would in his second training camp.

Just makes you wonder. Is he a "certified coward" like Bill Schroeder? If my career was on the line I'd consider going up for the ball once in awhile.

Beyond the big three of Randall Cobb, Davante Adams and Nelson, rookie Ty Montgomeryand third-year man Myles White have outperformed Janis. Their reception totals in team drills might be double or even triple Janis'.

In addition, Janis has dropped more than his share of passes.

"I'd say he's not a confident catcher, a snatcher, right now," Van Pelt. "He's doing a lot of body catching."

He's got adequate straigh line speed, but he needs to be able cut and run routes. It took Driver three years to go from being "just a track guy" to a real football player. Then again, he wasn't afraid to go over the middle or compete for the ball.

The Packers have worked with Janis to be more physical in escaping press-man coverage from much speedier cornerbacks, and there's tape of him doing exactly that.

It'd be nice if he broke out, but so far he looks more like Jerron McMillian than Julio Jones.

A physical specimen at 6 foot 3 inches and 219 pounds, Janis looks like Nelson's clone but can't sink his hips and maneuver in close quarters like the team's star. At times, he looks to be a straight-line speed receiver.

He struggled all last year too. This isn't a surprise to those who watched him. He had one fluke play because the man covering him failed to do his job and he smoked the rest. They say it takes a WR 3 seasons to really get the hang of everything. Of course some take less, some take more. He's going to need all three seasons.

The speed jumps out at you, but when you look at him like a coach would, the issues start cropping up. We'll see what happens in relation to his special teams proficiency. That will determine whether he gets a role on the 53.

This is clearly a ploy to fool the rest of the league. Janis is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Only someone that knows everything can see it, apparently. Ted Thompson is going to cut every other receiver on the team and just go with Janis since he is the best ever.

Janis has gotten a lot of hype and it's easy to see why when you look at his physical abilities, a huge wideout with blazing speed. He's like the Ivan Drago of wide receivers on looks alone.

However let's remember he was a late round pick for a reason, he's likely got a lot of polishing of his skills to do. If he wants to make this squad it'll be on special teams (at least initially), a place where his straight-line speed will be very valued (as a gunner, and/or Kick Returner).

Will be great to see how far he's come tonight!

The St. Louis play was no fluke...speed is no fluke as he could easily do it again. V12 baby.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

It's only mid-August, but the top four wide receivers for the Packers are already etched in stone — Jordy Nelson,...
