Coach Mike McCarthy had described Adams as the MVP of the team's offseason practices, but Adams then opened camp with a relatively quiet first week working as the No. 3 receiver, behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. That changed late in the week, when Adams made a couple of catches that drew notice, then he followed that with a good performance Saturday night.

His highlight play came during one-on-one drills pitting receivers against defensive backs. Rookie cornerback Damarious Randall had excellent coverage on a slant-and-go route, but Adams leaped over him and made a spectacular one-handed catch along the sideline. The play showed Adams' excellent body control — he got both feet down for the reception — and jumping ability (391/2-inch vertical jump at the NFL scouting combine).

Adams later displayed good route-running ability on a couple of plays. One came in the first period of team work against the Packers' best cornerback, Sam Shields.

Wow, I guess 40 time isn't the only determining factor in how good a WR can be. Here's something that Janis needs to learn, if he wants to make the team:

Also, it's worth noting that he reached out and made the catch with his hands. While that was an easy one, that's something he does all the time. He's a hands catcher, he reaches and plucks the ball rather than waiting for it to come to him.

You constantly bag on my desire for speed. It's curious considering players fall roundS in the draft due to their 40 time. Gunter went undrafted because he couldn't run. If he had speed like Sam Shields that guy is a first rounder, so, yes, speed is important. Very important. Not the determining factor for sure but still very very important. Davante doesn't have terrible speed...he just is middle of the road in that category.

We'll see what happens in the regular season...bar has been set incredibly high and there's no way he gets anywhere near it.

Starting to get worried that our WR depth is a mirage. We have our two big guns and a bunch of spare parts. Davante has been quiet, JJ hasn't elevated, and there ain't anyone else. Plus, we don't have a legit TE.

Now you add Monty into the mix and he's making flashs of a good WR already, Myles White seems to be improved, and has Janis really not improved? He looks perty good out there if I do say so myself. I'm not gonna doubt our depth just yet, because if you have 4-6 guys who can play I'd say that's pretty good depth.

That said, what indications are there that we're lacking at WR? I know you're not high on Adams, but he had a respectable first year, every report on Monty is glowing, Myles has some skills and hype in camp, and although few are as high on JJ as you, I think many will acknowledge he's got a lot of potential.

Again, I'm not saying the 3-6 have been validated as NFL studs, but I don't see what points to them being a mirage either.

So many were beaming about Abby but I don't think it will happen. You were beaming about Janis and I'm not sure that will happen but i'ts probably more likely than Abby. From the reports out of camp it looks like Montgomery has a chance to be a player and White appears to have improved but again nothing to hang our hats on except unproven potential in both cases.

It is my opinion that a group consisting of Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Montgomery and the next best 1 or 2 guys WILL be a very strong group and will end up proving my concern to be unwarranted but I can't help but feeling it anyway.

So people are mad because we don't have a stud receiver as our #3,4 or 5 am I reading that right? I like the fact that if we need to we can use our #3 in mismatches as we did against the Pats last year. But yes I know what you mean heaven forbid that we don't have a $10 million a year #3 receiver. I would love to have the tall speed burner like it seems the Vikes are loaded with, but they haven't proved they can catch the ball.

But ya go ahead and keep bitching because we don't have a $10 million 3rd wr and a $7 million #4 receiver.

Just remember alot of teams would love to have the players we have at wide receiver.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
