I was surprised when the Packers drafted a wideout so high. I've since come to appreciate what Montgomery apparently brings to the team, but I still have a high opinion of Janis and Abbrederis, and I want to see a LOT of use of them. It pissed me off that Janis got such little use last season. Add to that at least two UDFAs with significant potential, and we have an embarrassment of riches at WR.

What I'm thinking/hoping is that the Packers increase the use of 3, 4, maybe even 5 WRs on the field at a time. With Aaron Rodgers' escapability and ability to throw on the run, we are better off that way than with TEs trying to go deep or staying in to block.

Aside from our top 3 everyone else is an unknown at this point. The people on this forum always drool over the undrafted wrs and late founders. We could have great depth at we, or nothing behind the 3. I'm not giving in to the hype until I see it.

I'm interested in guys like Coxon and Pinkard at WR but until we see them on the field they are really nothing more than guys fighting for a spot on a practice squad. I think if Abbrederis gets/stays healthy he'll get some work this year because his skillset translates to being able to play pretty early in the NFL. Depending on Janis development he'll probably see more snaps and maybe even some plays designed for him but I expect Abby to get more snaps this year.

We are still in a pretty good spot though because if just one of Abby/Janis or a UDFA can play up to the level of a #4 (which isn't a crazy expectation) we've got the depth we need since Adams is sitting at #3 with the potential and ability of a #1 or 2.

Montgomery I have no idea, he has a college season where he looked like a beast and one where he looked like garbage. I think he'll get a lot of snaps on returns but other than that I have no idea if he'll contribute anything this year.

I wish somebody would ask McCarthy/Clement/Bennett/whoever straight out, why didn't Janis - who appeared to have so much ability, get so little use last season? If he is somehow damaged goods or an attitude problem, I'd like to know about it.

ANY receiver is gonna look better with Aaron Rodgers throwing to him than he would be just about anywhere else. That includes our top three; That undoubtedly will include the 2nd year and rookie receivers - several of whom seem to have at least as much ability as Adams, for example.

My point which hasn't been addressed is that we are better off keeping six WRs and less TEs - using more 3, 4, and 5 wideout packages - given the extreme ability of Aaron Rodgers throwing and his proven escapability. I'd much rather see Janis or Abbrederis catch it 25 yards down field than one of the TEs. I'd also rather see 4 or 5 receivers running patterns and trust Aaron to avoid the pass rush than to keep a TE or FB in to block.

If that means more WRs than TEs so be it. I understand the extra blocking our TEs do, but if Aaron can by himself some time I like the match-ups better with the WR talent we have. Not to beat a dead horse but I still think that Janis would have been a boost in the Seahawk game, especially with Cobb being well less than 100% at game time.

Jeff Janis didn't play because he couldn't add value on Special Teams and he wasn't better than Devante Adams and they were still high hoping Jarrett Boykin. You can't just add someone to the lineup, you have to add someone and replace someone. Gotta keep that in mind.

I don't have anything against Davante Adams, but I also question what he showed to be considered so much better than Janis. Adams looked pretty ordinary to me, and Janis looked special.

I think it went down to Boykin vs Janis and Boykin had a really good season the one prior and was good on special teams coverage. If DuJuan Harris was a WR, I believe we would have seen Janis over Harris second half of season.

beast (12h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (12h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
