Pretty much a garbage article. Aaron's salary cap number is NOT $22M now, or at any time in the future. The highest it gets is $21M and that is 4 years from now.

As a % of the salary cap Rodgers stands at 12.7%. The gist of the article is that's way above average for a SB winning QB under the salary cap. Average is like 6.4%.

What they don't mention is there are all kinds of extenuating circumstances for those low numbers dragging the average down. You've got Elway in there twice at 5%, we know that was a lie. Broncos circumvented the salary cap those years. Then you've got Warner, Dilfer, and Brady all in a row, all being paid as backups. Most recently Russell Wilson on his 3rd round rookie contract.

Bottom line, in the last 4 years you have Eli Manning at 11.7% and Brady at 11.1%. Sure 12.7% is a high number but not insurmountable.

The Holy Grail for any GM and front office is to find the "mythical' franchise quarterback.  Whether it's by draft or trade, finding a quarterback that can be the face of a franchise is the top priority of every team save the ones that already have one, and there aren't many out there that can say they [...]

In 4 years, the cap will have grown such that that $22mil will be a significantly smaller percentage of the overall amount.

IF Rodgers is still playing for us then.

Bottom line is that Ted's contracts all work out that way. After the first two years, they start to look like bargain basement deals.

when I look at the list of QB salary cap hits for 15'. It don't look to bad for us Packer Fans.

1. Brees - 26.4 million. Guess you know why they couldn't afford to pay Graham.
2. Eli - 19.75 million
3. Ryan - 19.5 million
4. Rodgers - 18.25 million
5. Stafford - 17.7 million
6. Peyton - 17.5 million
7. Rivers - 17.4 million
8. Big Ben - 17.2 million
9. Cutler - 16.5 million
10. Alex Smith - 15.6 million

I don't mind players getting paid, I just wish they would be honest about it. I'm sick of hearing about winning championships being the most important thing. If that was the case, players wouldn't have to always be the highest paid, or go where the most money is offered. If winning was the most important, they would take less in order to have more to spend to have better players around them.

Might want to take a look at Cobb and Bulaga's contracts.

They both took less to stay in Green Bay.

Even many of the UDFA's that signed with The Packers took less money.

Pay your top guy and put a quality product on the field year after year and players tend to want to stay.

Perhaps a more valid comparison would be how much was spent on the QB position by those SB winning teams. Not how much the starter in the game got paid.

In 99 the Rams were paying Trent Green, in 01 the Pats were paying Bledsoe.

Yes, teams that drafted a franchise QB post-2010 are at an advantage while said QB plays under his rookie contract. That doesn't mean the Colts and Seahawks should start over and draft another guy when the rookie deals runs out.

It is the goal of all NFL Teams to win Championships. When your team has the best QB in the league, which should not be taken for granted, every effort should be taken to field the best team that can be put together. A team only has an MVP QB for a limited amount of years, therefor an urgency should be realized to win with that QB while you have him. The Packers have been beyond lucky to have had two great QB's back to back. When A.Rodgers is finished, the Packers may have to wait 30 to 40 years to again have the best QB in the league. Therefor winning Championships should be the highest priority right now.

dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
