If the NFL implements the proposed changes to extra points there is no reason left to have a kicker. Moving the field goal back, making it less of a sure thing combined with the 47.5% success on 2 point conversions will make it almost a no brainer to attempt 2 points every chance. And if they use the Eagles idea of moving the ball to the 1 for 2 point conversions it would guarantee going for 2. last season there was a 57.5% success rate for plays run from the 1.

You really can't get rid of kickers. The possible 3 points with a field goal is just one reason.
The extra point, even if it's moved back to the 15, is still an important point.

As far as cross training punters, just because a guy can punt doesn't mean he can kick fieldgoals. If that were so, teams would have already done that to save a roster spot.
A 50plus yard fieldgoal that can win you the game is no "gimmee". Having a guy that is really good at it is still important at this time in the NFL.
It might change in the future, but who knows how long that might be.

NFL passes competition committee proposal on PAT, moving kicks back to the 15. LOS for 2-pointers is still the 2, D can now score on them.

Great might as well move the goalposts and widen the field and add 3-4 CFL teams in expansion. Why can't they just leave the damn game alone and count their $$$ 🤬

I would assume that the success rate for a 32-yard field goal/new extra point would go up. Kickers have a set distance, in the center of the field to practice repeatedly. Less room for error kicking that much further away but I still think we won't see many teams going for a ton of 2 point conversions (unless they're way behind).

In order for that person to have any value he needs playing time - at best he'd be a second stringer for a position that usually doesn't need a second stringer, or a third/fourth stringer. That's generally not a lot. Plus, when you really need that depth, it's usually due to injury. If that person's on the DL/IR, you get to bring that guy in anyways (unless he got nabbed by another team in which case one should hope you have someone else around the same talent level).

At least the NFL is thinking of Safety for the players. Now when a defense blocks a kick or a failed two point attempt, they can risk injury by trying to go some 85+ yards to score ... TWO POINTS!!

The only teams going for 2 this year will be new England and Seattle, and I will be jealous as hell because our coach has his tail tucked between his legs.

Mucky Tundra (3h) : New Pope from Chicago; in other words, the city produced a Pope before a 4000 yard passer

Zero2Cool (7-May) : beast, you're just one R from being voluptuous.
Zero2Cool (7-May) : And now some Packers blogger is like Doubs to Steelers makes sense!!!!

Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
beast (4-May) : NFL really needs to fix their position labeling issue, but I don't think they care
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Packers did not activate the fifth-year options for linebacker Quay Walker, with the goal of signing him to a contract extension.

Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Cowboys 1st round pick Tyler Booker will indeed be bringing his pet turtle to Dallas with him
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : that contained all prospects info and contact
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : beast, according the Falcons statement Jax came across it on an ipad. If I had to guess, probably an open spread sheet or something
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Simmons put up an emoji with cheese.
beast (27-Apr) : Not sure anyone is interested in Isaiah Simmons... Collin Oliver might of taken his potential slot
