Honestly I don't see the big deal in these comments...
Several sources very close to Clay Matthews say he wants to get back to playing outside linebacker full-time. He took one for the team in 2014 shifting inside in an emergency.
1) Of course pass rushers want to pass rush as much as possible... it's what they enjoy to do.
2) Matthews did shift to inside during an emergency for the Packers
The only thing that's questionable here is "took one for the team" ... FROM unknown "several" sources... how often do "several" sources use the same phasing like that?
And the article said,
and there’s no reason to think it isn’t based on comments made by ... younger brother Casey last November
Casey who seemed to be poking at his brother a little with comments about him before the Eagles (who Casey was playing for at the time) played the Packers.
When seeing Clay at ILB, Casey said he was surprised and he "had no idea," about Clay playing ILB, but added Clay "
likes going after the passer. He doesn't like taking on the linemen. "
But let's be honest, when Clay is going after the passer, he is taking on the linemen often lining up against the LT and going one on one (or two on one if the LT has help). And Clay at 3-4 OLB and often playing 2-4 OLB (which is really a stand up 4-2 DE) often times faces linemen at OLB more than the ILBers who have DL in front of them between them and the OL.
