I also didn't say to never sign/trade for another. I just said if you're paying for a player that the team he came for isn't, you're likely overvaluing/paying them. Woodson was great for us. Up until he told guys to take a knee with 5 minutes to go, I was OK with the Peppers signing.

You and I both agree that the team overspent by a million or two on Bulaga - that said I'm OK with him being back for the continuity and that it keeps the team 7 or so deep along the line. You overspend by a million or two here and there, it's not ideal but not the end of the world. You dip into that too much, or spend franchise QB money on Suh is what I'm not fond of.

The nature of free agency means that in nearly all cases you are going to overpay based on the talent of the player. So there needs to be another payoff like a Super Bowl or in some cases a GM keeping his job a couple more years, etc. Of course, there are exceptions.

Ron Wolf has nothing to lose. He's not employed by the Packers. He can state how he feels with no concern how it affects the team. Ted Thompson on the other hand probably keeps his true opinions to himself so it can't be used against him. He probably will open up like Wolf did once he's no longer the GM.
