CJ Wilson worked out just fine. 7th round pick? What did we get, 5 years of solid run stuffing depth out of him? Sounds like a great pick.

The way it's told here Ted Thompson is a genius...he just knew Sam would fall to him at the UDFA pool and then he would automatically sign with us. Ain't even close to reality.

Let's say the Packers admit they knew no team had interest in drafting Sam Shields based on dialog from his agent. Then used their 7th round selection on him anyway. The haters would twist this into "why blow that 7th round pick when you could have had the next Donald Driver?".

What I'm saying is every situation can be flipped and when you have hate for someone, you manufacture failures out of their successes. The problem with glorifying one person or in this case, decimating someone is that the fact of this being a TEAM game is naively ignored.

Who was ever going to say he missed out on the next Donald Driver by picking Sam Shields in the 7th? Who? If you were so sure a guy was going to be the next Donald Driver you'd trade back into the 7th (not hard to do) or just take the next Donald Driver.

I would say that homerism is a lot stronger than my perceived "hate". I'm pretty sure there are no fans of other teams thinking...Man, that Packers GM is so awesome. I wish we had him so we could NEVER ever land a big time free agent except for every decade or so. I'm sure they would love seeing holes on their team filled with UDFA's. Those teams don't have Aaron Rodgers and that is what fans of other teams covet...not our GM, but our big time QB who makes us win. It is so simple yet you want to continually shine the light on Ted Thompson for some logic defying reason. He's an okay GM...he's not a superstar of GM's. I only "hate" on him because most of you are so out of bounds with what you say regarding him it's beyond belief.

The best points I've seen here in a long while was the one on the Pack keeping Golden Graham Harrell over BJ "Fire in the" Coleman and cutting Ricky Elmore in favor of Vic So'oto, although, in Vic's case he had that mega game vs. KC our last preseason game that made him all but unreleaseable.

One reason Wolf is "legendary" and Ted Thompson isn't, is the internet.
It was not as big back in Wolf's day so the picture was painted by the media, not interacting at fan-based website like this one and many others.

Fans tend to gloss over mistakes unless they are beat about the head with them.
Therefore Wolf's mistakes are largely forgotten, even though he had a few of them.
Thompson's mistakes are cussed and discussed ad nauseum.
I am chosen by many but taken by no one.

Wolf had the much harder job...turning around a losing culture. Ted Thompson has maintained thanks to Aaron Rodgers. TT's job isn't an easy one though. Keeping a team above board for the long term is not easy. It rose with Rodgers, and will fall when he goes.

Ron was sucky in Round 1. He realized he couldn't do it all through the crapshoot and added what he needed to add. To heist a HOF QB from the Falcons is a much shrewder and difficult move than having the guy who was 1a and 1b as far as being the 1st overall pick fall down to your spot at 24 when your HOF QB is prone to walk at any given moment, or just give out due to consecutive games played.

Ron had Reggie... the biggest signing in NFL history at the time. Ted Thompson got Woodson...a guy NOBODY wanted at CB and a guy who sat on the market for weeks. That is his signature signing. Charles Woodson. Look what happened when he actually signed someone... we had a D good enough to win a SB and that we did. Perhaps, Ted Thompson realized that and that's why he signed Julius? A 34 year old DE who never played LB in the NFL. If Ted Thompson and RW are so similar Ted Thompson should have made a lot more splashes than he has over the decade... no Packers team has won the SB in the last 30 years by developing their own...it took outside help. IE: White...Woodson I just wish we weren't relying on a 35 year old to be that spark to catapult us this season.

Uffda,

Ted deserves criticism. You and I agree about overpaying Bulaga (although I'm ultimately happy he's still back) and letting Cullen go. Brad Jones was a head scratcher too.

That said, Telford's history and character issues kept 21 (the Vikes TWICE!) and 31 other teams from picking an MVP and signing a DPOY. It's not like Andrew Luck dangling there with nothing in your way to get him. Ted pulled the trigger on guys other people wouldn't. It doesn't make him infallible, but I also don't see the need to search for reasons to discredit his successes or minimize it by saying it was lucky.

Fan Shout
Zero2Cool (14m) : Merry Christmas!
beast (8h) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (16h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (21h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (23h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
