I wouldn't take either of these guys. What I do like about this is that it potentially sets us up for a nice haul of draft picks. Seattle will be right after us, and they do take risks like this. A team in Round 2 is going to fear Seattle is going to pluck either one of them and might offer us a substantial package to move down.

For me, most of the people I like for the Packers are "second round" or "third round" talent (and there are lots of them); and I'd rather get even one extra top 100 pick than stretch for a second rounder at #30.

So if one of these two guys is available at #30 and someone wants them enough to offer what means Ted will be able to get both a 2nd round ILB and a 2nd round CB, say, then I still would prefer trade down.

But if trading down isn't available (it takes two to tango, blah blah) at #30, I'd rather them take Gregory or Ray than spending #30 to get Stephone Anthony or Bernardick McKinney or P J Williams or Ronald Darby.

Every draft has people that so like a particular player that they'll overpay to move up. I want those people out there when the Pack is on the clock in both rounds 1 and 2.

(My ideal draft starts where one of those people schmucks want pick #30 and that enables the Packers to get a Hendricks/Anthony/McKinney AND a Collins/Williams/Darby.)

It's not a perfect draft. A perfect draft for me would have Leonard Williams fall to #6 or farther, Ted trading next year's first and everything this year except for the first, taking Williams, then leveraging that thirtieth pick in round one to trade back for 3-4 top-100 picks and 2-3 picks in the late rounds.

(This may be the first time since I followed the draft where I think the Packers should trade a future #1 to move up; and its definitely the first time I've ever advocated a Lawrence Welk trade of two future #1s. I'm still not willing to give up two number ones if one of them is this year's, though.)

Consensus seems to be that Williams is the best of an unheralded tight end class. Not saying there aren't good ones, but it's a weak class in general. Williams doesn't strike me as a special player.

I'd go into battle with the team we have right now! Anything in the draft will be great. I would take a chance on some of these high risk/high reward players, and also underclassmen who are better than their current draft grades.

No way Packers draft tight end in round one. Not happening. It will be the best rated defensive player, or trading back. Book it baby!!

I don't see Gregory falling all the way to us. Much too talented to fall past a team picking in the 20s. The Bengals, Steelers, Cardinals, Colts... They could all use a good pass rusher. The furthest he'll fall, I think, will be pick 24.

I don't think Shane Ray will fall as far as the media are saying, either. He's way too talented and I think the Colts at 29 will be the latest he'll get picked.

If Gregory would somehow fall to us, I'd turn in my card as soon as we're on the clock. With Peppers growing into a leadership role and Matthews now a veteran, they could take him under their wings. Something he needs.

I'd be ok with Ray, but I'd be okay with passing on him, as well.

This is exactly what happened to Sam Shields, but now other teams have seen his success, so I suspect they'll both get nabbed somewhere.

Depending upon their personal interviews, I'd consider them. I do like Gregory.

Anyway, this D needs a troublemaker type. Someone who will stir shit up, as long as it's ON the field. "Set the tone."

I couldn't believe that in Mayock's draft both were available to us. Not sure why he had us picking Perryman over Gregory. I understand the need issue, but Ted getting Gregory means he can keep the Clay inside experiment going on and draft an ILB later.

It will be interesting how far La'el Collins will drop. They say he is not a suspect, but is now out of everyone's first round picks including Mayock's. Could be a talented tackle up for grabs if you are will to take the risk of him being somehow involved in his ex's murder.

Randy Moss is the poster child for this. More talent than anyone in that draft by far but fell way down due to character issues.

I'm sure Ted Thompson wants these two to fall but probably not for why a lot of fans will...his odds of trading down go up a bunch if they're still there. I can't remember Ted Thompson EVER taking a sexy pick in Round 1 other than Aaron Rodgers and he didn't have baggage.
Ted Thompson likes to pick people in Round 1 that it's very hard to get excited about. I wouldn't expect that to change tonight.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Monday Shane Ray was arrested for marijuana possession and Randy Gregory tested positive drug test at the combine. It's not the drug that is the bother here, but rather the timing of it all. If you can't keep your recreational habits under control until post draft at the latest, what does that say about your character?
