With 7 Draft picks and 2 Compensatory picks (not trad-able 6th round picks ) would You trade to get higher picks and what would You trade a pick/picks for.

I would trade the 6th & 7th round picks to get a better 4th or 5th round pick that I use to get either an ILB, CB, or NT . DEFENCE , DEFENCE , DEFENCE !!!

Packers pick at the end of the rounds so if you want a 4th or 5th, you're going to have to give up more than the 6th and 7th round selections to get there.

Defense.

I wouldn't trade forward because I don't see any names that would be worth while to do so. If I trade back, it would only be a few positions and only if it gave me an extra pick earlier than round 5.

If you look at how the draft is shaping up at DL, CB, and ILB, most of them will all be gone (if projections are correct) by the time the Packers pick in the 2nd round. On the other hand there will be a good corner or ILB or interior DL still on the board early in round 2.

I would like to see Ted try to trade back into Round 2 about 5 places and then use the late 2nd round pick and the extra picks he gets trading back and move back into the middle of round 2. If he doesn't do something like this it will be hard to go defense, defense, defense, if, for example, he would be looking at the 6th or 7th CB with the #62 pick when there will be better players left at WR and RB. Two positions that look pretty stacked in this draft.
I'm guessing of course but it looks like two or three CB's will go in Round 1 and maybe only one ILB but in most mocks a lot more of these start coming off the board by around #50.

If Ted goes top heavy on D early I think he will have to make some moves or things would really have to fall just right to get players that would be at least in the realm of BPA.

Trade down to get more picks between #50 and #125 (mid-2nd to mid-4th).

Trading up to earlier than #20 costs too much.
What's likely available at 20-30 is more like #45-50-level talent.
There's a lot of#50-125-level talent in this draft at lots of positions.

I know that they need ILB, but the likelihood of #30-level ILBs being available at #30 is pretty slim. IMO, the reality is that ILB talent this year is slim enough that people are going to go earlier than their talent warrants. Early seconds like Kendricks, McCkinney are going to be gone by 30, mid seconds like Anthony will go in early second or even late first, late 3rds like Perryman in late 2nd, early 5ths like Ryan by early 4th, etc.

About the only position I think that's deep enough and likely to have a 30-level talent still available at 30 is RB (but much as I like Gordon, they have two many other needs to spend that much of the draft on him) and maybe DT.

This draft should be made for Trade-Down-Ted (assuming he can find the suckers to trade with him)

I've been studying this draft class.
My conclusion is that there are 4 layers.

Layer #1: 10-12 players that are really very good.
Layer #2: 30-40 very nice prospects
Layer #3: About 50 players that are typical 3rd/4th round values
Layer #4: Usual gambles/ shots in the dark.

I don't like our 2nd round pick. At #60 it won't be enough for a 2nd layer player and it will be too high for a 3rd layer prospect.

So I see two possible scenarios: One is to trade up to the 15-20 pick in the 2nd round. Another is to trade down from the 2nd round for multiple picks in rounds 3&4.

I would be surprised if we stay put at #60.

I find this disturbing considering the needs of the defense, especially ILB.
