Only three DT's????? I swear we better pick up a few from other teams.

I am also sad that Noah Herron is no longer on the team.

That wasted pick is on the PUP list.

Justin has had a run of injuries, and that takes nothing away from his talent and natural ability that he has. I am not going to look away from his talent and ability when he is healthy. Some times "Rough Times" as Justin has had, tend to bring out conviction and personal drive that would otherwise be left dormant if not for adversity.

I think that will be his story at the end of his Packer tenure.

I look at Justin as being a huge contributor in the Playoffs.

Heres a position-by-position look at the Packers roster after final cuts:

Quarterbacks (3)
Players kept: Aaron Rodgers, Brian Brohm, Matt Flynn

Comment: Thompson might pick up a veteran No. 2 behind Rodgers, but that would mean exposing Flynn to the waiver wire, and another club could claim him immediately or sign him off the Packers practice squad during the season.

Among the quarterbacks available is Chris Simms, who was cut by Tampa Bay, and Brooks Bollinger, who was beaten out by rookie John David Booty at Minnesota. But considering Thompsons history of going with his own players and McCarthys willingness to work with young talent, the best bet is theyll stand pat.

The question, then is, has Flynn surpassed Brohm for the No. 2 job? Flynn outplayed Brohm in preseason games his passer rating of 100.2 points was far superior to Brohms 45.2 and had enough mobility to get out of trouble and create a few plays when a play broke down. However, both rookies were equally overmatched with the Packers No. 2 offense against Tennessees starting defense in the preseason finale.

Running backs (5)
Players kept: Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson, Kregg Lumpkin, Korey Hall and John Kuhn

Comment: The Packers gave Lumpkin a long look he led the team with 39 carries in preseason games, which was 20 more than Herron, who was second in carries and he showed enough running talent to be the only undrafted rookie to win a roster spot. Morency was proficient as a pass blocker and appeared healthy after having patellar-tendon problems all last season, but Lumpkin had youth and upside on his side. Herron had all the intangibles but wasnt as talented a runner even though he averaged a team-high 5.8 yards a carry in the preseason.

Kuhn made the roster because of his special-teams play and his role in the two-fullback, one-halfback set that McCarthy likes to deploy a few times a game.

Wide receivers (5)
Players kept: Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, James Jones, Ruvell Martin, Jordy Nelson

Comment: No surprises here, because none of the other receivers showed enough to warrant a roster spot. Jones, though, has a sprained knee, and that could leave the Packers dressing only four receivers for their first couple of regular-season games.

Brett Swain, a seventh-round pick, and Johnny Quinn are candidates for the practice squad.

Tight ends (3)
Players kept: Donald Lee, Jermichael Finley, Tory Humphrey

Comment: Humphrey won a roster spot, though Thompson could replace him in the next day or two with a tight end claimed on waivers. However, the Packers have been patient with Humphrey and kept him all offseason even though he missed the last 1 seasons with injuries and had essentially no NFL resume before that. They like his natural running and catching talent. He blocked well in the preseason finale against Tennessee, plus he stayed healthy over the final two weeks of training camp.

Offensive line (9)
Players kept: Chad Clifton, Mark Tauscher, Scott Wells, Jason Spitz, Daryn Colledge, Josh Sitton, Allen Barbre, Tony Moll, Breno Giacomini

Comment: Giacomini is a sixth-round draft pick who at 6-foot-7 and 311 pounds has the talent to play in the NFL. Even though he made noticeable improvement in training camp, he showed against Tennessees starters Thursday night hes not at an NFL level yet. That makes him a candidate to be waived when the Packers add a long snapper, even though that would leave them with only eight offensive linemen on their 53-man roster, one short of the usual number for most teams. Giacomini would be a surefire practice-squad player if no one else claims him.

Defensive line (9)
Players kept: Aaron Kampman, Cullen Jenkins, Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly, Michael Montgomery, Jason Hunter, Colin Cole, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, Jeremy Thompson

Comment: Last year the GM Thompson went unusually heavy here by keeping 11 players, but that drops to nine in part because former first-round draft pick Justin Harrell opens the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list and doesnt count against the 53-man limit. He must sit out the first six games, and thereafter the Packers have a three-week window during which he can begin practicing. Once Harrell starts practicing, the Packers will have three weeks to either activate him, waive him or put him on injured reserve.

With Harrells back injury and Saturdays release of Daniel Muir, who was on the roster all last season and played in three games, the Packers are especially thin at defensive tackle. Pickett, Jolly and Cole are the only pure defensive tackles, though Jenkins plays there some, especially on passing downs. Montgomery and even Hunter took some snaps as inside rushers during the preseason.

Linebackers (7)
Players kept: Nick Barnett, A.J. Hawk, Brady Poppinga, Brandon Chillar, Desmond Bishop, Abdul Hodge, Tracy White

Comment: Bishop and Hodge played too well during training camp to cut. White has been one of the two or three best special-teams player on the team the past two seasons. Thus, the Packers kept seven linebackers instead of six for the first time since 2000. Bishop has been one of the standouts of camp and is secure, though theres an outside chance he could be trade bait for a defensive tackle. White and perhaps Hodge are potential cuts when the long snapper comes in.

Defensive backs (10)
Players kept: Charles Woodson, Al Harris, Nick Collins, Atari Bigby, Tramon Williams, Aaron Rouse, Will Blackmon, Pat Lee, Jarrett Bush, Charlie Peprah

Comment: Keeping Peprah as the fourth safety was something of a surprise because he missed all four preseason games with a hamstring injury. However, he was off to an excellent start in training camp before getting hurt, and the Packers must think hes close to getting back on the field. To keep him, the Packers cut Tyrone Culver, who had a solid camp for a backup safety.

Bush has fallen down the depth charts to the No. 5 cornerback after opening last season as the No. 3, but his added versatility after an OK showing at safety late in camp might have saved him.

Specialists (2)
Players kept: Mason Crosby, Jon Ryan,

Comment: Gafford is Jansens natural replacement. The Packers will be almost at the bottom of the priority list for waiver claims after advancing to the NFC championship game, but theres also not a great chance another team will claim him.

I have to believe the next place someone gets cut is at DB, with Peprah and Bush being the two leading candidates.

Bush's availability might just give him the edge over Peprah.

I expect one DB to be cut by Tuesday and replaced with a LS.

Other than that, I don't see any major moves that can be made. Like Ted Thompson said today, bringing in any other player means having to cut one of your own players, and I'd rather not cut anyone else on the roster.

My yearly post that will be ignored by many on this forum.

This is your 2008 Green Bay Packers.

These 53 individuals have been chosen by Ted Thompson an MM to represent The Packer Nation.

Whether you agree with this roster or not, you as a fan should support them 100%.

Through the good times and the rough times.

Every one of thes guys have worked most of their lives to get where they are, The Packers don't have the best player at every position, and some will go through growing pains, there will be times when other teams players will play better, that doesn't mean "that guy really sucks"!!!!

Support your team through the good and the bad, try it just once I think you will find that at in the end you will feel much better about yourself.

"edit" damn those little "pop up" heads really bother me,
THEY REALLY SUCK!!!!!!
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Mucky Tundra (12h) : Matthew Golden=DAWG (so load the wagons!!) !!!!!
dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Whoops, I thought Zero was saying it was a surprise the Brewers lost and not Lloyd being hurt
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Not a surprise; inevitable
Zero2Cool (17-Aug) : Brewers streak ends at 14
Zero2Cool (17-Aug) : SURPRISE
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on MarShawn Lloyd: “He’s gonna miss some time.”
Mucky Tundra (16-Aug) : CLIFFORD WITH THE TD WITH UNDER 2 TO GO!!!!!
Zero2Cool (16-Aug) : 90 MINUTES UNTIL FAKE KICKOFF!!
Martha Careful (16-Aug) : I think Ruven is a bot, but regardless should be stricken from the site.
Zero2Cool (14-Aug) : Packers RB Josh Jacobs ranked No. 33 in NFL 'Top 100'
dfosterf (13-Aug) : The LVN Musgrave collision- Andy Herman said Musgrave seemed to be the one most impacted injury-wise
dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget
Zero2Cool (12-Aug) : RB Tyrion Davis-Price is signing with the Green Bay Packers.
Zero2Cool (12-Aug) : zero help, dominated. preseason
beast (12-Aug) : QB Jordan Love has surgery
beast (12-Aug) : Martha said Morgan had a lot of help, I didn't watch the OL so I can't say.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers LT Jordan Morgan did not allow a single pressure across 23 pass-blocking snaps vs. Jets last night, per PFF
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : With buckeye and the reasonable couple, we're currently sitting at 10
buckeyepackfan (10-Aug) : Just posted to re-up on our FFL.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice
wpr (10-Aug) : I made it through the 1st Q.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Could have been a worse start, so there is that.
beast (10-Aug) : Yeah, someone tell the Packers football season has started, seems like they weren't ready for it
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : Sooooooo many penalties
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : It may only be preseason, but this game is a trip to the dentist
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers do bad -- FREAK OUT!!!!!!
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers do good -- eh only preseason
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Well that half was fun
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Great, zayne is down
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : 13 minutes away from kickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkoffff
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Had Celebration of Life for my uncle up north. wicked rain hope it dont come south
Mucky Tundra (9-Aug) : THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL TONIGHT!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
