Packers to add veteran 49ers position coach Mike Solari

Does this mean James Campen will not be coaching for the Packers in 2015?

The Green Bay Packers will be adding one of the NFL’s senior offensive line coaches to their staff.

A source told FOX Sports that Mike Solari is leaving San Francisco for the Packers.

Solari, 60, has 28 years of NFL coaching experience with five different franchises. Solari spent the past five seasons with the 49ers, which fielded one of the league’s most prolific rushing attacks during that span.

The bulk of San Francisco’s offensive coaches have left since defensive line coach Jim Tomsula was promoted to head coach to replace Jim Harbaugh, who left for the same position at the University of Michigan.

It wasn’t immediately known what Solari’s exact role will be in Green Bay. James Campen has served as offensive line coach since 2007, and in 2014 the unit was the team’s strongest in years.

Solari’s hiring would be part of rumored Packers staff changes following the team’s 28-22 overtime loss to Seattle in the NFC championship game. Green Bay radio station WDUZ-FM reported Sunday that McCarthy was considering ceding his play-calling responsibilities to Tom Clements, who would be promoted from offensive coordinator to associate head coach. Edgar Bennett would then shift from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator.

Weird. Another 60 year old, albeit a seemingly successful one.

Edgar had been apparently helping out with the run game while he was WRs coach. Maybe this guy will be picking up that slack. Hard to say.

I'm still wondering who the new WR coach will be. My guess is Luke Getsy (currently the Offensive Quality Control) might get a promotion to WRs coach. Of course... part of me is hoping for a more well known name maybe becoming the new WR coach.

I'm hoping this is a move to finally scrap the outside zone blocking forever. Get back to more pulling, and ability to have counter plays and let Lacy use his power running.

Anything to improve our short yardage situations. God we're horrible at picking up 3rd and 1 or punching it in at the goal line. I'd like to see the Packers pick up Felton who opted out of his contract in Minnesota. He was injured last year, but would be a major improvement over Kuhn in run blocking.

Nice pick up, with the emergence of the offensive line & w/ Lacy & Starks this could elevate our run game. SF run game has been very efficient in the past years.
