But a serious question with our current stable of Backs and all signs point towards San Diego moving LT this offseason.. is this a move the Packers should investigate?

Complete player.. up til probably this year, an argument could be made that he was the best back in football.. I keep thinking Marshall Faulk's career post Indy...


Do we have a need in our backfield is the first question?

Second.. Cost. Salary and compensation to obtain the rights to him.

Third.. How many years can he be effective yet?

From all talk, quality person and a excellent player.. brings a quiet leadership with him.

LT probably isn't as over-the-hill as he's being portrayed, but we don't need running backs. Or receivers.

We need: O-line, D-line, perhaps a vet to back Rodgers up (though one of our rookies could step up, possibly), maybe some competition in the LB corps, possibly another young CB with good upside.

Wishing is fine, but to read some folks' posts (not yours, mind you) they'd like to turn over the entire team, save for Rodgers and Jennings.

We're a couple pieces from being in the thick of things on a yearly basis - IMO, LT is definitely not one of those pieces.

That there is the one of the arguments for it... LT is going to have a huge chip upon his shoulder to prove them wrong in SD.. a motivated talented player brings a dimension to a team.. IE.. See McNabb post benching this season..

Again.. not saying make the move.. but your post is visions of the kind of talk I hope for.. the why's in either direction. Generally this types of discussion generate other venues to talk upon.

Well, I did say 'probably' - backs have such short shelf lives in general, it's hard to tell where he is at this point. I doubt many people saw Alexander's decline coming when it did, so it's very possible he's just got too many hard miles on his legs at this point and he's getting brittle. Then again, I'll believe that when I see it.

I guess my main argument is that we don't need a running back at this point, so I'm a definite No on LT.

EDIT to add: We've got our own back w/ a chip on his shoulder - I guarantee you that Grant wants to shut up every single person who questioned his heart or work ethic this season.

There,, right there is the types of thoughts I hoped for in the no argument..

Many people railed on Grant this past season.. I think he put forth the effort with what he was given.. my only complaint, is he didn't find a way to break one off..
