I am appalled that Jennings would say something like this publicly! As laudable as his intentions surely are, and as much as I love watching Driver on the field week after week, I am rational enough to realize that the Packers would be insane to accept a poison-pill clause like that.

If the source of that quote is the last interview with Greg Jennings (season wrap up interview on Packers.com) then it was a completely tongue in cheek comment.

Greg, after making that comment, said (and I quote) "No seriously though, ... (talks about signing an extension)."

I can't imagine Thompson even wanting to trade Driver, I'm pretty sure Thompson intends to ride his draft picks to the end. As such, Thompson's admission that he suggested to Ron Wolf that the Packers draft Driver when Driver was available in the seventh round, shows me that Thompson on some level considers Driver to be one of his "guys" and thus won't trade him at a time when Driver can still offer something to this team (both leadership wise and production wise).

Of course, if Thompson does trade Driver for anything short of the entire Ravens starting Defense and Defensive coaching staff, I'm going to be very tempted to jump on the 'Fire TT' Bandwagon.

Boy this thread had me laughing so hard lol. First off i won't put anything past Ted Thompson so a trade would be possible. As far as Crabtree falling to us at #9 hell if hes there Ted Thompson better draft him or he should be run out of town or we could have another draft like when we selected Tony Mandrich and passed on Barry Sanders. But the part i was laughing at was everyone saying Jennings would be god for saying that about his contract ( driver has to be here) and looking back and all the praise Woodson and Harris got for saying Ted Thompson better get some more vets to help out. You wonder whats so funny about it, well let me tell you hahahha. I remember a certain player getting called selfish and thinks hes bigger than the Packers for wanting certain players picked up, but now these other players are doing the same thing and some of you same posters are praising these guys.

Makes for fun readings though so thanks.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I agree with Dave on all points he just made. It amazes me that people are praising Jennings for the comments he made, even if they were facetious (there is truth behind every joke).

And if Crabtree falls into our lap at No. 9, we must take him.

Any chance Harvin or Crabtree will be there at #9?

And I'll be honest this is the first draft where my thoughts going in are that we TRULY DO NOT need a wide-receiver. We have other areas that need help. I don't see how we field a much better team by adding talent to our most talented position. Save me a lecture about best player available. I agree with it for the most part. I just see our depth at WR as a "special circumstance."

Agreed.

I don't believe in committing to one belief in anything. BPA is one of those things. You do not say BPA in every single circumstance. If you have a glaring weakness that is so bad it causes you to lose TEN freaking games in a season, and there is a WR available that is your strongest position by far with plenty of depth, you better fix that glaring weakness instead of getting yet another WR. Donald Driver, Gregorious, James Jones, and Jordy could all be starters on half the teams in the NFL. Martin is a serviceable backup. fix the problem that caused our entire D to derail.

The point is this: If either Harvin or Crabtree are available at No. 9, the probability is all the elite linemen will already have been snapped up.

Having watched Crabtree play.. the kid is a special talent... special players don't grow on trees.. if he falls that far.. which he won't but if he were to.. you have two options at your disposal.

Draft the special player regardless of the roster impact.. you can always move players by dealing them.

Or you shop the pick to some of the reciever needy teams such as a Philly and get a package of picks that you can utilize.. maybe even a player that can step in an help today.

Harvin doesn't fit that class IMO.. space player.. open field playmaker.. but not a complete player like Crabtree.

This draft is Offensive Tackle deep .. also there are some decent DT in this draft.. With Jenkins and Kampman.. our need on the Defensive line is Tackles that can penetrate... IMO.. there isn't a real standout there at DT in the first that is a can't miss player.. There are a few OT that are though.. that is where my money is on the #9 pick..

Here is what I would do.

Tell Crabtree he has the chance to play with Greg Jennings and Aaron Rodgers.

Then tell him to SUCK at the combine.

Fascinating perspective, RP, but that would mean voluntarily giving up millions of dollars to fall outside the Top Five. 😉
