I didn't want to get into detail about it because I don't want people to take me as a joke on here since I am still semi-new. The low self-esteem kicks in...haha. I have a personal trainer (ex football coach) helping me lose some weight right now. If I got a shot, I would try my damned best.

There was a journalist who tried a few years ago who tried out for the Packers and he wrote about it. Didn't make the rounds much, probably wasn't a wide interest for reading about the adventure.

But... if you have the body, you probably do better in the women department than most. 🙂

Yeah, I am pretty dedicated right now with the training portion right now. I am finding it difficult to decide on exactly what I would like to give a shot. Part of me feels I could do fullback...however, I am kind of tall for fullback (6"3). I am at 280 right now but within 2 months I can be at 260 which is my goal. Tight end or defensive end is something else I can do. I played both positions in high school, and 2 years of tight end in college. Last 2 years of college I played left tackle. I was 290 my senior year, made first team all conference....wasn't a bad time because I loved blocking people haha.
I can catch and I like running with the skinnies all the time but I also love being like the big boys and pushing people around....kind of wierd.

Akamp.......don't let what ANYONE says get in the way of trying to attain your goals.
If you try, and don't make it, you have gone farther then most. Most people sit on their hands for fear of rejection. So they belittle you to make themselves feel better about their not even trying.
However......you may just surprise yourself and make it!!! You won't know though unless you give it your best shot! You are not a failure as long as you tried your best!
I'm pulling for you!!!! :thumbleft:

You are VERY welcome my friend!
Hindsight is 20/20.
I wish i would have done something with my talent (to sing) but i never thought i was good enough.
Trying out for the Ozaukee Idol contest, and going to the finals and being in 4th place (even though i was scared to death) made me see i SHOULD have tried LONG ago. I had 4 seperate judges tell me i should be singing professionally somewhere. They all said i had the smoothest voice they ever heard. Now, i had heard comments like that from people that heard me sing before, but i always thought they were just being "nice" to not hurt my feelings. Now i know otherwise....and it's too late for me.

But you have the possibility to make your dream come true! Go give it a shot! I mean, really, what do you have to lose? The WORSE thing that can happen is they say "no" and you don't get to play. But what if they say "yes????" Your whole life could change!
Either way, you won't be sitting 30 years from now saying "what if". You will be safe in the knowledge that you have the guts to actually do it!

Want an opinion.. if you really think you have a shot.. call around universities that have Pro Days.. tell them about your desire, history and that it is legit.. they very well may give you an opportunity..

This approach would give you more sets of eyes than just one team.. you just never know whom might see you... if you have the skills and attitude to achieve it.. you just never know.. get into a camp and open some eyes..

AKamp - Let me tell you something straight up. You NEED to go through with it and I'll tell you why. The AKamp 20 years from now will HATE the AKamp today if you don't. You do not want to go through life with huge regrets because you let a little thing like self-esteem get in the way of your dreams.

Trust me. It is much better to try and fail than let time pass and become too old to do something. Give it your best shot and best of luck to you. Yes, it's a long shot, but so is any dream. You have to take the risk. It's something you have to do.

You guys are all right. I know what type of person I am and I would regret it. My fiance's father tried out for the New York Jets back in the 80's. He said he did everything alright but they straight up told him he was too slow.
One thing he says is, "I can look back and say so many things about the tryout. One thing is I will never regret the fact that I tried."

One thing I was thinking about doing is making a basic film about myself. Lifting, running, doing drills. I have a good friend who is a great video editor. I also have a tiny foot in the door and I am sure most of you are going to kill me for not mentioning this in the first place...James "Big Cat" Williams was my coach for 2 years.
For those of you that DON'T know who I am talking about, he was the OT of the Chicago Bears for many years. (Told me that Reggie White was his biggest challenge and a great player). I still am in touch with him but nervous to talk to him about the NFL.

You guys all have great advice. Pack93, is this tryout you are talking about for guys coming out of college? I am a year out of college and I played D3 football so I don't know if I would be eligible.

Want a stepping stone on your march..

http://www.madison.com/tct/sports/433420

With an undefeated season and margins of victory that ranged up to 90 points, the Madison Mustangs semi-pro football team had a breakout year in 2008. From the looks of team tryouts Sunday night, aspiring football players from across the region noticed.

More than 130 people from as far away as Iowa, Illinois and Michigan -- and team coaches were called from as far as Ghana -- turned up Sunday at the McClain Athletic Facility on the UW-Madison campus for the four-hour tryouts for a chance to make the Mustangs' 70-man roster.

Give them a call.. see if there is a way you can work out for them yet.

Most Pro Days, since they are going to have scouts there, they allow guys to come in an work out as well.. not just anybodies, but guys that have competed at the collegiate level or semi pro level and can give them more bodies to work out for the scouts..

Alot of the smaller schools pool players together at times.. it is just another avenue to get your name out there..

My cousin went to UW-Madison's pro day a year after he graduated from UW-Stout.. he torn his knee up and wanted another shot at getting a look.. he called UW, told them about his situation, history and such..

They let him workout for the scouts.. he was a tweener and too slow for backers.. so he never got a look.. but at least he got to work out for them.

This was about 91, 92.. or so..
