I don't think McCarthy seems like a person who gets too far out of his comfort zone.
I'm thinking Haslett gets the next offer and if he turns it down Moss will be that guy.

I do like this guy, or at least the idea of him (I'm not so sure it's a given that every coach coming from the JJ tree will be like Spags), but with all the open positions, including DC, I worry that we'll be out-bid with him as well.

Like you said, we fans look at GB as a Mecca of pro football, but that doesn't mean that others see it that way. I'm probably being overly negative - check that, I know I am - but I'm starting to get a bad feeling things will play out much as yooperfan puts it: We'll offer the job to guys like Haz and McDermott, both will show us The Hand, and we'll end up falling back on Moss.

If I've been cranky lately boys, I apologize. My snowblower broke on Monday and we have 60 inches of snow so far this winter.

As for DC, I'm starting to hope for someone none of us ever heard of who is greatful for the job and has energy to burn. It worked with McCarthey. The only thing I ask is that we rid ourselves of the Bates read and react system.

I concur.. we have been spurned by a couple of free agents and if rumors hold true a sought after DC. So concern is valid.

However, given Williams track record of movement and stays in locations.. it might be a bit of fate as well for the Packers.. they say he has a bit of a ego issue, well if so, that is something we don't need.

Is he hungry enough and motivated enough to push this defense to new heights.. well a few reports out of Jacksonville this season suggest otherwise.

So while having a proven DC would have be a sort of relief, it isn't like there weren't questions about Williams and his past.. if he used us to barter a better deal in NO.. then good luck to you but don't show your face around he again looking for work.

Go Cards this weekend.. knock Philly out so we can get a little taste to see if the kid there is interested..

Timmy Lewis would be more than interested.. he has a little teeth cutting at DC.. give him an interview.

I'd love to see McDermott hired. But I wonder if the Eagles will allow him to leave. I'm sure that the packers know the answer.

I like the idea of pulling a secondary coach as DC. In todays defenses, it seems the "brains" of the D is often the long overlooked safety....previously reserved for CBs who could not run, now operated by cerebral players who often make the defensive calls and adjustments.

The secondary, to me, is the braintrust of the defense....and the coaches who run it, by the nature of their duties, probably have the highest football IQ amongst defensive assistants/position coaches.

For that alone, McDermott is attractive....as would be Tim Lewis.

I'd like the Eagles lose this weekend so we would have a better idea where we stand in the hiring process.
