I don't know that we have seen enough of him to speak this highly of the kid.. but I like the mean streak they say he possesses.. that is one thing we are short on overall on this team.. the nasty side between the whistles.

In last week's poll, 54% of our readers chose tight end Jermichael Finley as the rookie most likely to play in a future Pro Bowl. And while the former Texas star may indeed get there one day, he wasnt the choice of our expert. I think Josh Sitton has the tools to be one of the best right guards in the NFL, said a scout for another team. If the coaches dont jerk him around - and they tend to do that with young offensive linemen - its only a matter of time before hes a quality starter. [img_r]http://www.orlandosentinel.com/media/photo/2007-09/32877570.jpg[/img_r]

Ironically, this same expert gave the Packers a thumbs down for drafting Sitton in the fourth round. I didnt think he was athletic enough to function at a high level in the zone blocking scheme, admitted the scout. And while I still think hes better-suited to play in a power running system, he moves well enough to do what the Packers ask of their guards. Its too bad he got hurt during training camp. Hed probably be one of the lines two or three best players in 2009 if he had a full season of starting experience under his belt.

This made my day, thanks for sharing. Sitton emerging as a high quality guard would be a wonderful wonderful thing.

I'm very high on him. Like I mentioned in the Matt Birk thread yesterday, I think bringing in a team leader on the offensive line would do wonders for Sitton.

Slightly off topic but I'm curious, why don't we consider Clifton a veteran "leader" on the O-line?

To bad Sitton got injured. Barring another injury, he is just about guaranteed the RG spot for 09'. He had gotten to the starting role until the injury, and climbed back up for the end of the season.

Need to make it through an entire preseason and regular season with having to shift the Oline around. I can't wait to have a unit together like it was with Clifton,Tauscher,Rivera,Wahle,Flanagan. Those guys just gelled so well.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

well, i have to think that we'll see some new players in green and gold in 2009. I don't see Tauscher or Clifton back with the team next year. lots of money to spend. we'll have to spend money just to stay above the cap minimum.

I hope Josh Sitton is one of the starting guards next year, but I also hope he's not another Allen Barbre. We all had hopes for Barbre and he bombed this past year.

Overall I think adding Josh Sitton in as the right guard and finding a right tackle to replace Mark Tauscher could upgrade this teams running game. All of a sudden you have a new right side that could hopefully open things up for Ryan Grant.

I agree, porky. Most of Grant's longer runs seem to come off right-tackle. He's an absolute dud running up the middle, and only marginally better running to the left.

In recent years, it seems like our favorite O-linemen are the ones who are not quite ready to start. Then when they start they turn out to be not very good. I hope Sitton breaks that pattern. He seemed to hold his own when he got some playing time later in the season.

I agree with others that Tauscher will be gone, and Clifton may be gone too. And that might not be a bad thing.

I think a lot of that is you are what your line gives you. He never got squat for a hole up the middle so yeah, he was rather dudlish running there.

I have basically heard Spitz is the better Center and if Sitton is the guy they talk about here I know both of them have attitudes. It would be nice to see the center of the line being the pushers rather than the pushee's for a change.

If we can get the attitude right in the middle of the "O" line with some quality play to back it up and do the same on the other side of the ball that's worth five more wins right there.
