Thanks to some conditions that are not conducive to a good hunt. High water levels in swampy areas, Fog, Rain, snow and cold. I only saw two deer, a Doe that I let go, and what turned out to be a 5 pointer thanks to a broken off point that I got. But there was clearly no shortage of bucks on my trail camera nightly.

Since I got home from the season, all I have heard is people complaining about the DNR, and their management of the herd. When the responsibility for the condition of the deer herd is more the responsibility of us hunters. Discussion with one guy who was complaining about their not being enough deer and than saying he show a doe on the last day because he "Needed" the meat. Sorry, but nobody today in the US is going to starve if they don't shoot that Doe on the last day of the season. Shooting that Doe likely reduced the number of deer where he hunts by 3 for next year (doe + 2 fawns).

Why do so many people always want to complain and blame everybody else, but not look at themselves.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Although it is true only cowards point fingers at others rather than looking for answers in the mirror. If I hit a buck, I am going to blame your poor ass hunting skills! Bahahwhahahaha

Yeah I know. I do not hunt but I have seen a lot of them in the back of trucks. There are a lot of does taken these days.

Let em go and let em grow!
People that shoot does and immature bucks are ruining everyones hunting experience.

Combine those type of "hunters", wolves, coyotes and the brutal winters we have experienced here in the U.P. over the last few years, our deer herd has just about been wiped out.

I can say this in reference to your conversation... I don't need the meat to survive the winter.. but I certainly like the variety of the flavor of the meat to enhance the winter. [grin1]

Yes deer management is upon the shoulders of the sportsman more so the DNR.. their only job is to regulate the hunts. And yes selective culling is part of deer management in addition to trying to enhance the area for the deer to flourish. From licks to crop management to plots.. to even selective forestry, it is part of our interest to manage the herd through all methods available.

Education and spending time with the youth being a missing element as well.

I'm a big fan of taking the whole deer and jerking it. Nothing better than venison jerky, imo.

I spent 2 days out in the woods. Didn't see a single deer.
Or a married one, for that matter.

wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
