Yeah, I hope we get Williams, but won't be mad if we end up with Nolan.

I have been saying for weeks that I would like someone out of the Eagles defensive system, mostly Sean McDermott. So I won't be upset if we can't get Williams for our DC spot as long as we get McDermott.

I'm really pushing for Gregg Williams. I won't be pissed if we get Nolan, but my vote is definitely going to Greggorious the 2nd.

Seconded. The guy just knows how to build top defenses.

If we throw enough money at him I could see him staying for 3+ years.

Im with you guys in that i am for Gregg Williams over Nolan by a hair.... but its not like Williams defense in Jax was great this year. If he can make a top defense out of anything, what happened last year?

Im all for McDermott too. hes young so he would probably fit the locker room vibe better. I mean i trust the interviews though. If Mike thinks Gregg Williams or Nolan will be better prepared and be able to adjust better than a first year guy... then i gotta go with what he says.

Del Rio wouldnt let Williams play the scheme that Williams wanted... Del Rio wanted to play a Cover 2 while Williams wanted to play press man coverage with blitzes. Thats why Williams lasted only one year there.

I live in DC so I have to watch all the skins games and I will say that Williams was a great DC with the Skins. I will even go as far to say as one of the best in the league during his time there.

good to hear someone with an inside view of sorts. Another thing i dig about Williams is that he and Jeff Fisher had a serious serious defense from 97-00. That was the stretch they made the Super Bowl and if he has learned anything about defense from Jeff Fisher then thats a bonus. Jeff Fisher has always fielded a respectable to great defense each and every year and that would be a welcome sight. I'm still on the wagon with Gregg. thanks bigbyfan

Honestly, I'm just going to let things play out now.

I'm not sure what Mike McCarthy is planning, considering there have been so many rumours emerging.

Hopefully he's just wasting time until Philly is out of the playoffs so he can interview Sean McDermott. :thumbright: :wav: :thumbleft:

The blog Schefter had up about this was mysteriously taken down. Did he report this on NFL Network too?

Don't get too excited quite yet.

It seems strange to me that sources close to Williams would honestly divulge that he is leaning towards one team. As the Denver/Nolan deal proved (and countless other deals in the past) the legitimate interest is usually hidden. I have a hunch (but I could very well be wrong) that people close to Williams (probably his agent) are leaking stuff about New Orleans because his true interest lies with either Tennessee or Green Bay and he's trying to get as much money as he can out of it.

There is simply no reason to show your hand when you have the possibility of teams competing for you. Williams has a history of making big money, so it's not like it isn't high on his priority list.

We'll see how it plays out.

beast (18h) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (18h) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (21h) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.
Zero2Cool (27-Jan) : Packers coach Matt LaFleur hires Luke Getsy as senior assistant, extends Rich Bisaccia's deal

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
