Holmgren never lost more than seven regular season games during his entire tenure in Green Bay. McCarthy lost eight his first season, 10 in his third (after losing in the NFC Championship the year before) and seven in his eighth.

This is unfair, as McCarthy has had to deal with injuries. Then again, he hasn't proven he can successfully address that situation yet.

There’s also one more thing that McCarthy has to master: He has to stop outthinking himself. He must stop trying to prove to people that he is the smartest offensive mind on the field. I don’t have a problem with him kicking an onside kick at New Orleans in a game that clearly turned into a scoring circus. But I do question his rationale when he splits Julius Peppers out wide on second and goal from the 3.

THAT, is what I agree with.

Stop out-thinking yourself and have this team emotionally prepared at the beginning of the season, and for a full 60 minutes every F'n week. You don't have to be more clever than the other guy. You just have to be better.

I wanna say it's a no brainer, but in McCarthy's defense, Holmgren had the best coaching staff and GM in Packers history.

You people are nuts. Mike McCarthy SUCKS as a press conference-guy, but he is an OUTSTANDING coach and technician of the game. We are lucky to have him. He does completely dumb-assed shit from time to time, but as far as I'm concerned, he is authorized to do so.

Holmgren had Lord Favre under control, and he did not suck as a coach, overall.... Holmgren was a very good coach then and Mike McCarthy is now.

I can't believe I dig this friggin' toll taker so much, but I do, lol

Holmgren was better. He knew how to use a run game, he knew how to run a screen game, he knew how to use the short passing game. McCarthy has been somewhat carried by having what until recently had been considered the best top to bottom receiving corp in the NFL.

Don't hold it against Mike McCarthy that the offense isn't run identically, or the plays you like to see (screens) aren't utilized as often as under MH.

If MH had Greg, DD, Cobb, Jordy, and Finley, you may have seen a different offense in the '90s as well.

Mike Holmgren wasn't shit without Fritz Shurmur. Mike McCarthy wins in spite of Dom Capers.

McCarthy is a superior play caller, although, Holmgren wasn't afraid to let his OC call the plays. There was one game I recall that Holmgren actually said he was too "pissed off" to keep calling plays. McCarthy wouldn't do that, he's too stubborn.

Regardless of whom is "better", I am thankful we Packers fans had them both because they each brought home the trophy.

Being such a superior offensive mind and the head coach, you would think that he would be able point out where he would attack Dom's defenses in order to help them improve. Are all these other offensive coaches that are exposing the defense seeing things that McCarthy isn't.
