I honestly don't think the Packers put as much stock in the TE as a primary pass catching weapon as everyone would like to think. If they did they could probably make any one of their TE's on the roster into a top 10 TE. I think that's why they didn't seem all hell bent to replace Finley with another guy of his ilk. Even with Finley it seemed like he was as much of a decoy of sorts as a weapon.

Maybe they weren't hell bent on replacing Finley with another guy of his ilk... because 1) They expected Finley back which is why they heck his locker around a lot longer than they kept Pickett or Jolly locker around... and 2) Because there wasn't another guy of his ilk available... at least not on the FA market and not that reached the Packers 2nd round pick. 3) Hoping Bostick and Quarless would step up and fill some of the void.

I disagree... I think if the Packers had a better threat at TE they'd use them more in the passing game. For talented TEs like Finley, teams often had to find help for a LB to cover them... it wasn't as much a decoy as how teams normally try to stop talented TEs from being the X factor as they can be a huge match-up problem. Stop the match-up problem first...
