He's got the physical skills. He's got to prove the game's not too big for him. AND stay healthy.

Rodgers, Lyerla and Perillo are a year away. It's up to Bostick and Stoneburner to show they can be playmakers. Quarless is what he is, an Ed West "toolbox" kind of guy.

Quarless is indeed kinda like Ed West, but 4 or 5 inches taller, and I think faster. He's probably #1.

I disagree that the newbies need a year to develop at a position like TE. Rodgers seems like clearly next after Quarless. Lyerla certainly has the potential to be up there too - depending on the whatever shit. Stoneburner made a lot of mistakes, but that seems curable, and I liked what I saw from him at least as much as Bostick. And Ryan Taylor has his niche - with the versatility and special teams.

So all things considered, Bostick will be hard pressed just to make the team - and now he supposedly is slightly out of shape?

Amongst all the roster battles - WR and TE intrigue me the most. At this point there are a lot of unknown factors, especially with the new guys. Quarless knows the offense arguably the best right now and that is one advantage a coach would have to consider. I haven't seen enough of the rookies to say anyone is "out" but Rodgers and Lyeria seem like they have the most potential out of this group. We shall see what they show in camp soon.

I'm not sure I agree with you on Lyerla, though. Assuming he keeps out of trouble (which I'm not as worried about as most), I think he will be TE 1-B to Quarless's 1-A before the season starts.

Lyerla won't be everything his is capable of becoming in year 1, but I think he's going to show more as a rookie than Bostick and Stoneburner do as "veterans."

I don't know anything about Perillo. As for Rodgers, I agree that he's a year away.

Some high thoughts on the rookie TEs... then again every year that are high thoughts on rookies and most just ride the bench their rookies years getting adjusted... I agree with the thought that the rookie TEs are probably at least a year away... all the stuff about their talent is flashes of it. They're still very raw.

I was very surprised when MM said Bostick was their best TE at blocking last year... but he's got great movement skills, only problem I saw last year is that he seemed soft, hear footsteps have alligator arms or how ever you want to say it, on certain passes over the middle and especially in the red zone when the Safeties don't play as deep (because you can't throw a 50 yard bomb when you're already in the red zone) and play up, closer and they seemed to realize it and then make sure the next hit was even harder than the one before.
