I think a lot of the lack of production by Packer TEs has to do with the tendency to use the wideouts the way a lot of teams use TEs - short yardage and goal line - Cobb last week, Nelson other times, etc. Apparently, McCarthy, et al trust them to get open and hold onto the ball more than the TEs, and I can't say I disagree with that.

I don't see Bostick as any great answer. He blocks less than a lot of TEs, and he gets open less than most WRs. As for Richard Rodgers, if he can stand out as a blocker AND catch the ball reliably, maybe. I was touting Quarless in the preseason, but he has been a disappointment too. I'd still like to see Stoneburner get his chance. Barring any of them breaking out, though, I'm fine with maximizing the use of the wideouts. However, I really do wish Janis was included in that.

The bad mouthing of Sherrod is not exactly justified. If you compare his performance to what we expected from a #1 draft pick, then yeah, but for a backup forced to play, he hasn't been that bad. He's been better than Newhouse when he played; I'd even say he has been as good or better than Barclay when he was forced to start last year. Sherrod just doesn't benefit from low expectations like Barclay. I may be hyper-caution to give him so much TE help.
