I am wondering this exact question

How handcuffed was Moss under Sanders?

Were there things he wanted to do, but with the scheme he wasnt allowed to do it?

Moss's interview in the jsonline last week he alluded to the fact that was the case

No doubt that's somewhat the case, from what I've heard (from reliable people) its that Moss was involved in game planning and co-calling the D, but Sanders scheme was pretty set. He no doubt was limited by Sanders desire to stay true to the 4-3 cover 1 bump-n-run.

That said, it might be that moss decided to take the high road and not get into arguments with Sanders over differences, instead choosing to drop his ideas when differences arose. I wouldn't put this beyond Moss, while he seems to be assertive, he also seems to have class and tact.

Interesting candidate, from Greg Bedard of JS:

2. Gunther Cunningham, Defensive coordinator, Kansas City Chiefs. If Herman Edwards is given the boot in KC, Cunningham could be available. McCarthy worked with him for six years with the Chiefs.

Well all the speculation might be over if this proves correct..

I hear Winston Moss, the Packers linebackers coach, might be the teams new defensive coordinator.

The thing I wouldn't understand in that situation is - why do you get rid of a large number of the NFL assistant coaches that Moss has worked with and then make him DC? Who is he going to bring in?

A new wrinkle from PFT:

RUMORS FLY OF NOLAN TO PACKERS
Posted by Mike Florio on January 5, 2009, 8:53 p.m.

The best thing about the most obvious, superficial analyses of NFL coaching connections is that, sometimes theyre accurate.

We suggested last night that former 49ers coach Mike Nolan could be the next defensive coordinator in Green Bay, due to the fact that Packers coach Mike McCarty worked as Nolans offensive coordinator in 2005.

A league source tells us that Nolan curently is in the process of lining up a staff of assistants, and the thinking is that Nolan will be the next defensive coordinator of the Packers.

The Packers announced on Monday the termination of defensive coordinator Bob Sanders and four defensive assistants.

Wow. I don't know how I feel about a 3-4 defense. Maybe he won't change it to that type of style. Did he run a 3-4 in Baltimore when he was there?

I know at one point the Ravens had a 4-3 I believe.... with Siragusa (Spelling) and Sam Adams in the middle. Not sure though.

Dont even know if that was when Nolan coached them 😉
