In this particular case, they have Janis' 40 time. So the stereotype of Black players being fast is kind of moot.

And I honestly struggle to believe they scouts/teams don't pick the player they think will be best... of any race.

Perhaps they were drafted higher than the 7th round not because of their skin color but because they both have the middle name of Lee. Maybe it was because they were both born in Illinois. That's it! White boys who are born in Illinois with the middle name of Lee will be drafted higher than other White WRs. It's a fact!

Here's the Romanowski story from Woody Paige at denverpost.com:

According to a report in the next edition of Sports Illustrated, an unidentified "white player told the grand jury that Romanowski suggested the substances (Phentermine, a diet pill with amphetamine effects) would allow him and Romanowski to compete on a level field with African-American players. SI claims the player said Romanowski told him: "We have to go up against the black guys ... They're faster and stronger, and we have to take advantage of this. It is the only way we can compete with the black guys."

--- One can interpet black and white issues any way they wish to. I stand by what I've typed and find the idea that a white WR and RB are viewed the same as a black WR or RB to be inaccurate.

Uffda, please give up the Romanowski angle. The guy was one of the dirtiest players I've ever watched, and he was an absolute disgrace to the game. I don't care what he shot in his ass or pills he popped in order to play - he is still a disgrace to the game.

What you think of Romanowski is tangential to the point being made. Whether he was your all time favorite player or least, it has no bearing on the subject matter.

White guys have a tough time with this issue. Nobody wants to even think there may be a shred of truth to any of this stuff. It doesn't bother me at all. It's pretty easy to see looking out at the sports world how things are. There are just not that many great white athletes...they're rare. Janis is rare regardless of race but he's really rare as a white athlete. Green Bay has more than it's fair share of white athletes.

Personally, I don't care if Janis is Black, Hispanic, Asian, or White... I want to see him produce for my favorite franchise. I just refuse to think there is no stigma that Janis faced/faces. It's there.

I can't get this schmuck to respond to any of my posts.

To piggyback, uff, I don't like people legitimizing things because of personal bias -- or in your case -- from "looking out at the sports world" to see "how things are."

I feel like I need to go back to school and get a PhD in ?something scientific? just to decipher your post.

It's a little bit scary to casually throw around the idea that there are substantive genetic differences based on race. It's scientifically unfounded. Anecdotal evidence ain't gonna cut it. Nor is some appeal to the Bill Romanowski's of the world.

Again -- most people understand the perception is that there are differences based on race. People also used to think the world was flat.

It's pretty easy to see looking out at the sports world how things are. There are just not that many great white athletes...they're rare. Janis is rare regardless of race but he's really rare as a white athlete.
