The Green Bay Packers have extended Ted Thompson! Even more years of awesomeness and NFC North domination to come!

Thompson had two years left on his contract prior to this extension.

GREEN BAY—Ted Thompson, the architect of the Packers’ current five-year playoff run, will remain the team’s executive vice president and general manager for the long-term future.

Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy, who recently said signing Thompson to a new contract was a priority, announced on Wednesday that Thompson has signed a new, multi-year contract with the team.

“I’m pleased that we were able to enter into this contract extension with Ted,” Murphy said. “His outstanding work has been the key factor in the success that we’ve enjoyed in recent years. I have tremendous respect for Ted, and am confident that we will continue to contend for championships under his leadership.”

Thompson is beginning his 10th season as the team’s football operations boss. Under his and Head Coach Mike McCarthy’s leadership, the Packers won a Super Bowl in the 2010 season and are currently on a three-year run as NFC North Division champions.

This is great news! I'm happy to hear that he is feeling great, and is going to continue in Green Bay.
Also, I am curious how long this extension is for. Multi-year extension when he had 2 years remaining must mean he's anticipating sticking around for a good while. Sounds good to me; next comes the McCarthy extension.

From Ted's press conference this afternoon:

"How nuts are you to walk away from this? I want to be here." "I'm a scout. That's what I do, and that's what I enjoy."

"the Quarterback can run if he wants to, but with this rocket attached to your body... who would?" -Aaron Rodgers

Great Move by The Packer organization!!!!!

Ted's not flashy, doesn't need the limelight, he just goes about the business of delivering Mike and Co. the best talent he and his scouts can find.

Stability at the top is sometimes overlooked.

That pounding sound you hear...that's uffda banging his head against the wall. Sorry uffda but you did expect this didn't you.

As far as McCarthy goes, I'm not so sure he gets his before the season is over. He is not in his last year so there is no pressure and it wouldn't surprise me if Ted Thompson waits to see how this season goes. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if they announced McCarty's extension tomorrow

Of course, I'm disappointed. While others are celebrating the fact we might now win more division titles, I cringe knowing we'll likely never sniff another SB under Aaron. A shame. Just a shame. 3 straight years of playoff failure, two ending in embarrassing fashion. The D is terrible and has been for several years while Ted Thompson pumps high pick after high pick into it. Not sure what he did to earn an extension...the SB honeymoon is long since over but I may be downplaying the idea that many fans were still reveling in the Bart Starr days during the entire 70's and 80's so the one in '10 will likely keep fans placated for a few more decades. Truly bummed.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Man that's a depressing outlook. But yeah... it freaking hard to win the superbowl. But damn I was feeling a lot better after last season ending loss than my Bronco fan friend was after his loss I tell you.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
