I disagree with cynical comment that Randall Cobb is saying he hasn't earned it because he is waiting for a breakout season to cash in. Cobb doesn't have the Javon Walker pea-size brain. Cobb has also shown to be anything but selfish in his time with Green Bay.

If you take his six games and average them out he was "on pace" for 83 receptions, over 1,100 yards receiving and 10 TD's.

Cobb is much more Wes Welker than Calvin Johnson. Jordy Nelson is more Johnson than Welker. Thus, Nelson is worth more.

He stands to probably gain a lot of money if he can prove to be a playmaking force over a full season. He really doesn't have anything to lose playing out the year. Right now he's sitting on 1 meh rookie year, 1 decent sophmore year, and a good 5 game sample in year 3. Nobody is comparing him to Walker, Walker already had a big year and wanted to cash in. I think Cobb just knows that he stands to earn a lot more if he can produce a top level season because he hasn't had one yet. Should he settle for 6 or 7M now when he stands to possibly earn closer to 9 or 10? I don't think anyone has a problem with players going for more money, the main problems come when they are bad teammates about it and I don't think that will be Cobb.

Victor Cruz Saved the Packers Millions on Randall Cobb

The 2013 offseason established a clear delineation between outside receivers and slot receivers. Those who line up on the outside and open up the middle of the field are getting paid handsomely; those who do their work from the slot haven't. Mike Wallace, a free agent from the Pittsburgh Steelers with a career yards per reception average of 17.2, garnered a 5-year, $60 million contract from the Miami Dolphins.

On the other side is Wes Welker, the model for slot receivers in today's NFL. No receiver in NFL history has more receptions over a six-year span than Welker. Yet, the Denver Broncos will only pay him $12 million over the next two seasons. Welker is five years older than Wallace, but that alone doesn't account for the $48 million difference in contract value. Rather, it's the perception that slot receivers aren't valuable enough to warrant large investments.

I'm sure Randall's agent didn't like him saying this. If he has another season similar to last, then he's basically admitting he still hasn't proved enough for a big contract yet. I think the Packers will resign him, but I also think Randall Cobb will struggle to stay healthy for 16 games plus a season. Plenty of "smaller" guys do it, but I'm always kind of surprised when they do. At least his main injury so far has been more of a bad luck situation. Not much he could have done about the leg injury.
