This man understands the only time success comes before work is in the dictionary, love it!

GREEN BAY — Randall Cobb doesn't know if he's next on the Green Bay Packers re-signing to-do list — even though others, including his own teammates, are assuming that's the case.

One day after fellow wide receiver Jordy Nelson signed a reported four-year, $39 million contract extension, Cobb stood at his locker Sunday following the team's second training-camp practice and faced question after question about when he might get a new deal.

But reporters weren't the only ones talking about it. Not long after news of Nelson's deal broke, other players were talking to Cobb, who's entering the final year of his rookie deal, about him being next to get an extension. Among the Packers' other unrestricted free agents-to-be are right tackle Bryan Bulaga, cornerback Tramon Williams and defensive tackle B.J. Raji.

While Cobb said he's gotten the feeling from the Packers that he is indeed next in line, he is consciously doing all he can to avoid thinking about his financial situation, especially coming off an injury-marred 2013 season in which he missed 10 games with a leg injury.

"At the end of the day, it's a business," Cobb said. "My heart's in Green Bay, I love Green Bay, the three years I've been here have been unbelievable. But I understand the business side of it."

Asked if, in his mind, he's done enough to merit a new deal, the 23-year-old Cobb replied, "I don't believe I've done enough, and I think that's on me. Last year, I missed 10 weeks, I got injured in a way that there was nothing I could do about it. I think my job is just to come out here every day, do what I'm supposed to, continue to work hard and hopefully my time will come.

I think you can credit Donald Driver, James Jones, Jordy Nelson and even Greg Jennings somewhat, for showing these guys how to conduct themselves when they become Professional Football Players.

Ted has showed he rewards those who come to work, get the job done and let's their agents take care of the business side of things.

Greg decided he wanted to leave, James knew his time in Green Bay was pretty much up after last year, he will always be welcomed back when his career is over, Jordy is just a true professional!!!

Let's hope Randall has a fantastic, injury free year and he will also be rewarded.

I appreciate the politically correct humility, but I want him extended, even more than I wanted jordy extended

There's not really any good reason for him to sign a deal right now. He hasn't had a single top level year as a WR yet. It would benefit the Packers if he'd sign a deal right now but if I was him I would definitely play out the year. What he really means by his comments is "I can't make as much money as I should be able to based on what I've done so far so I need a good year to get that $$$" 😆

Cobb playing in a contract year that he feels needs to be the justification for a big payday? Lookout.

Unless Randall is the type who is going to cave under pressure of financial security, he is set for quite possibly the biggest season we've ever seen from a Packers WR.

This is a guy Rodgers said was the only guy who reminded him of Greg Jennings in the way he carried himself and just simply "got it" from the second he arrived in Green Bay. Throw in that Rodgers said Randall will be one of TT's best picks, ever, if not the best and I can't see a way he leaves now. It was somewhat unwise of him to short sell him in the media like that...almost like he's resigned himself to not getting a big deal because of the injury last year and the overall ability to point to a lack of consistent production.

I hope he takes a short term deal from us, because his words don't indicate he's thinking he's in line for a long term deal and wants to prove that he is. A guy who wants to prove his worth and is comfortable with that idea will take a short term prove it deal. A Finley type deal. Randall has also got to be considering the effect of not taking a long term deal as quickly as he can get a reasonable one by looking at the fact Finley gambled on himself and lost... I've heard no talk RC has a insurance policy like Finley so the risk is great and his perception must be the risk is even greater after watching his teammate go through it. Maybe, just maybe, he takes a long term deal for the security of it because of Finley's situation.

My belief is he wants the big money and thinks he's worth it and will roll the dice and at most take a short term prove it deal from the Packers unless he kills it this season and there is no negoation until after. A short term RC deal gives the team flexibility to reassess the whole Jordy vs. Randall thing in 2 seasons assuming it's a 2 year deal that is offered and signed.

The off the field stuff has become almost as interesting as gameday in Green Bay.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

I think Steveishere is right, Cobb ' comments mean he hasn't played well enough to warrant the money he and his agent think he can get.

To me, the short term deal doesn't help the packers much unless last year's practice squaders and this year's class really step up. To me, it's clear that Cobb is a stud, probably more so than Nelson, so I'd love to see if we can get a bit of a hometown discount done asap.

The conspiracy theory side of things would say he said that he hadn't earned a fat contract so that when he's rejecting Packers offers throughout the season people won't be the wiser because he knows the Packers side isn't going to talk about anything financial.

So, he says he's not worthy so he comes off looking like a great team guy when deep down he knows he's looking to bolt on a big payday after the season because deep down a part of him is disappointed he wasn't taken care of first.

Athletes are as insecure as anyone. I'm sure it stings Randall that he hasn't gotten an offer he thinks is worthy. In his words, today, I thought it sounded plausible he'd received offers from the Packers when he said the thing about telling his agent not to come to him with anything about negotiations until they're in a "good spot".

Would love to know what million range he considers a "good spot".

He would get re-signed, but not for the kind of money that others get.

Ted is very careful with the money. I hope he can prove himself deserving.

Although we can speculate about his underlying intentions, at least he is being professional rather than whining like so many others would do. Too many "pay me" guys are in the league, and frankly it is childish and unprofessional.

I really hope a deal can be made earlier rather than later - the longer they wait, the higher his price will likely become.

I disagree with cynical comment that Randall Cobb is saying he hasn't earned it because he is waiting for a breakout season to cash in. Cobb doesn't have the Javon Walker pea-size brain. Cobb has also shown to be anything but selfish in his time with Green Bay.

If you take his six games and average them out he was "on pace" for 83 receptions, over 1,100 yards receiving and 10 TD's.

Cobb is much more Wes Welker than Calvin Johnson. Jordy Nelson is more Johnson than Welker. Thus, Nelson is worth more.
