I actually hope the Lions do much better next season. I'm tired of the NFC North being the laughingstock of the league. Sure, winning the division every other year or so is nice, but I'd rather see some better competition. When was the last time every team in the NFC North had a winning record. Has it ever happened? Was there ever a year in which every team in the NFC Central had a winning record? The NFC South, NFC East and AFC East -- now there are some exciting divisions!

So my primary wish for 2009 is a renaissance of the old Black and Blue Division. I want to see some smash-mouth football that causes other divisions to shake in their boots. Even if it means the Packers win the division less often, it will make the division titles that much more satisfying for me.

The corollary to this wish is I'd like to see two or three teams from the North make the playoffs in one season. That would be some thrilling football.

The NFC North has been down a little. But not terrible.

Now can only hope for the domination similar to the Central when Brett was with the team.

In that time frame the NFC Central put 48% of the teams in the playoffs for the NFC. A couple years 4 of the 6 NFC teams were the central.

What a mind-boggling thought! Nowadays that wouldn't be possible. The maximum number of teams a division could send would be 3.

Of course my other wish is that the Packers win the division in 2009 in convincing fashion -- perhaps even by sweeping the entire division series. 😃

That, I'd like aswell. They screwed over Harring quite well. I hope that if they draft a QB, the new management will actually get him a team this time.

Getting a good O-line, receivers seem to be in place, running game seems to be developping.

That's what I wish for the division atm, I'm actually starting to feel sorry for a divisional rival....

A winning record of 10-6 or better and a playoff run for my team.

Ummm not to be a downer but that would not be possible lol. the other teams do play themselves but it was a good thought. Kinda like your 4 teams from our division in the playoffs i don't think that was ever possible.



Edit: ok i was wrong after research and from 1990 to 2002 they did allow 3 wildcard teams now i am searching to see if the central ever had 4 teams in the playoffs.

Damn proven wrong on that also it happened once we sent 4 teams to the playoffs in 1997 (pack,Bucs,Lions, and Vikes) hahahaha the bears sucked back then.

And the 4 teams was when it was the NFC Central with only 3 divisions.

97 and 94 the Central had 4 teams in the playoffs

Those were the days when the NFC Central had 5 teams though. Since the NFC North has only 4 teams, only 3 can make the playoffs, whereas the NFC Central could have 4 teams make the playoffs.

I've been saying this since we were the NFC Central. Our division has always been the laughingstock of football. The Bucs. Da Bears. The Lions. The Vikings. And us.

Besides us, how many SB wins? I think only one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the Bucs out of our division when they won theirs? Meanwhile, there are 3 teams in the NFL who have more SB wins than our entire division put together.

Precisely. I'd be so much more excited about division crowns if the division weren't so chronically mediocre-to-pathetic. And divisional games would actually be worth watching if our rivals found a way to consistently put some talent on the field.

And zombieslayer, you are correct. Realignment occurred in 2002  and the Buccaneers won their Superbowl that same season, becoming the first Superbowl champions of the 8-division era.

Completely off-topic, I think it's interesting to see how primitive the SportsIllustrated website used to look a few years ago (see link above).
