The biggest reason why it takes so long to see a doctor at the VA is because the "experts" at utilizing the system have it clogged. These are people that cannot get healthcare outside the system, so they milk the government to provide it. They may have been a clerk in N Dakota (example 🙂 ) during one of our conflicts, but, by god, they got a paper cut once, and that obviously lead to the lung cancer they suffer from today, notwithstanding the 40 years of cigarette smoking subsequent.

I call these people assholes. You call them vets. What a country. In the meantime, those young lads coming home with real issues that are really service-connected get to wait.

I hear you Gunny bit once you pull back from the extreme of your example it gets real muddy real fast. I am inclined to err on the side of giving as many men as possible the care so someone who is deserving doesn't get crapped on. I have seen the govt dump on vets to many times to trust them to know who is deserving.

The first thing they should do is define what a Veteran is, or at classify them differently. Combat Vets get top priority at the VA. Peace time vets that never went to combat, would be on a waiting list. And the guys that just went in and served 3 years to get the GI Bill or ROTC college, got their education should get notta, nothing, zilch for medical care. They've already been paid rather well for their "sacrifice".

The bottom line is that the taxpayer is footing the bill for all this stuff, and this taxpayer is quite appalled that our current war veterans are coming home from that bull shit war all fucked up and can't even get any help.

I honestly have never had any problem with the VA health system, although I've never really been sick either.
