On my way home from work I heard Chris Havel and Harry Sydney taking Bob McGinn to task for his throwing the Packers organization from Ted, Mike, the Board and even the fans for the signing of Colt Lyerla to the 90 man roster.

It got me wondering, what did Colt actually do?

These are the two tweets I found that garnered the heat about Sandy Hook

@anhyzerroc I got you. The parents of the kids that supposedly died in the sandy hook situation are liars

The Tweet wrote:

And then apologized two weeks later.

Overall, I feel that I made a mistake in getting involved in such a personal matter on such a public platform. And I'm apologetic to my teammates and my coaches and the program overall for doing that. But on the same note, I would never want to discourage anyone from having their own opinion or raising questions like that.

But for me it was a bad idea because of the position I'm in, so like I said I'm apologetic and I'm looking forward to learning from this and moving on with the season.

It's something I should've been prepared for but wasn't, obviously, But I feel like sometimes those things have to happen if you're going to learn from it, so I'm just trying to look at the silver lining of the situation and I feel like I learned my lesson from that.

Colt Lyerla  wrote:

Regardless of what he believes, I feel it was inconsiderate and insensitive. Then I also think that every single person has stated something they regret and wish they could take back. I certainly have.

You can click this
link  for a good source of information on his troubles.

What I've found is he publicly said some insensitive inconsiderate things and experimented with drugs, a nasty drug at that. I'm sure none of you experimented with drugs as a youth, so you are free to run him over for this.

With how Bobby has reacted to the signing I would have thought he committed murder and was an alcoholic wife beating dead beat father. Perhaps Bob McGinn is an evil genius at work in he's taking such a hard line to the signing hoping to place a mountain sized chip on Colt's shoulder to prove Bobby wrong?

Our last three presidents have done drugs for God's sakes. I hate this Packer People crap and it starts with the hypocrite Mark Chmura. A lot of the same people crying about Colt look the other way to all the negative things about Brett Favre. I have an idea, how about we root for the kid to become the best tight end in the league and completely turn his life around. Now that's a story worth printing.

I've seen some Sandy Hook conspiracy videos... I have no issue with someone believing or saying they believe this was a hoax. None of us were there so none of us actually know what happened or didn't.

Being "offended" has become the new "murder" in America. You can't offend anyone anymore...I'm waiting for them to make that a felony charge.

His twitter rant is a complete non-issue to me. His belief. Perhaps, he's offended that someone believes otherwise. Who cares?

There is more to this story than a twitter rant and doing cocaine and running from the police. It has not been revealed what really happened at Oregon. I'm not sure how or why it hasn't gotten out. Whatever it is, it would seemingly be significant as not touching the guy given his talent doesn't make much sense based on what we know.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

I don't care. What is really annoying is fake righteous indignation from people who have said and done worse.

Best to let it go and wish him the best. Ted signed him, and he's one of the more conservative GMs in the NFL in this regard, but also one of the most experienced in giving players a 2nd chance. Successfully.

Good to see those Zero2Cool. Thanks.

He comes across as immature and crazy. With that said, he's hardly the first immature or crazy person to play football. Didn’t Rashard Mendenhall blame the government for orchestrating 9/11? Nobody cared that he played in the NFL last year.

Colt Lyerla has made mistakes. His beliefs are probably all over the place right now. He'll settle down, eventually. Most people do. The NFL isn't full of choir boys. There are players in the NFL right now that have assaulted women. There are players in the NFL right now that have stolen. There are players in the NFL right now that have done (and still do) drugs. In other words, there are players in the NFL that can surpass Lyerla’s rap sheet and match his stupidity.

In this specific case, I wouldn't want Lyerla on my team without talking to him first. Isn't that what the Packers did last week? Give him a chance. Maybe, just maybe he’ll mature and get his life on track. Maybe, just maybe football and the Packers will help him. I don’t know, but they can always cut him if he says or does something stupid.

If he was playing for the vikings or bears would we be giving him the same moral leeway?

I get the chmura/favre comparison and that the league neither is nor probably needs to be made up strictly of choir boys. I also like his potential and hope he succeeds here.

With all of that said, I feel like we're becoming apologists for his behavior thanks in large part to the green and gold glasses we're wearing.

To me, that really differs from guys who are already professionals and who continue to do the dumb crap they do (looking at you, Aldon Smith) and get numerous passes. There is just no comparison.

I'd prefer to think of Colt Lyerla's 2nd chance as being different than Aldon Smith's 9th chance in the NFL...

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
