If I had to pick one, it would have to be Jordy Nelson, he doesn't have the flash of Cobb, but Jordy is that big target every QB wants.

I believe Ted drafted 3 wr's this year to replace Jones and push Boykin, not to replace Cobb and Nelson.

I don't think we as fans have to worry about choosing, just the 4 players listed below, there is 17.1mil coming off the books after 2014 season.

After 2014
Jordy Nelson........4.375mil
Randall Cobb.......1.211mil
Tramon Williams...9.500mil
Jarret Bush..........2.033mil

Another 9.775mil coming off the books after 2015 with players listed below.

after 2015
A.J. Hawk....5.1mil
Brad Jones...4.675mil

Plenty of cap space left to sign both Cobb and Nelson to extensions this year, will be interesting to see if Ted waits till the end of the year and let both become free agents, I for one hope he doesn't but that seems to be his trend.

When they see Uncle Teddy was spot on they USUALLY come back. We know Jenkins didn't and then assume GB must have offered less after all why else would the player not accept it? People, fans, in general assume players will grab the biggest deal. They don't consider that the player has to humble himself a little when they come back and say Ted was right.

If the Packers feel it is adequate, they match it, if not then they let the player walk. Sometimes a player gets his ego hurt because he turned down a more lucrative offer hoping to get more and refuses to sign with the Packers out of spite. e.g. Cullen Jenkins, Greg Jennings... James Jones swallowed a little pride and signed back with the Packers a few years ago.

I wouldn't call this a trend. I would call it the Packers intelligent business approach. Remember, we do not have a billion dollar owner that can haphazardly toss money around. We have to be frugal.

If we're talking short term (3 years (maybe 4) or less) I think I'd look towards Nelson. He's style is nearly as exciting but he's broken out and showed he can be a great WR even with Rodgers missing about half the season, no Jennings and Cobb missing most of the season.

Also Nelson is better on the outside while Cobb is better on the inside. If Nelson goes then Cobb or another WR would have to step it up on the outside. Where if Cobb goes then another slot WR, TE or running game has to step it up on the inside it looks like the Packers running game might be stepping it a lot with a number of talented RBs now and a good OL that was able to get good push.

Though I think the Packers will try to resign both of them.

He could very easily trade a WR to CAR or CLE. I'm sure there are others. Both teams in dire need of WRs.

Aside from all the serious answers, if it came down to having one or the other I hope Ted Thompson would go with Jordy Nelson because I named my first son Jordy...just saying. 😆

Now that I think about it, this is a serious answer. I don't want Jordy going to Minnesota or I might have to legally change my 2 year old son's name.

oh hell no. hell no to all of this. I cannot even begin to explain how important I believe these guys are to the team.

I do not believe either Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb will hit the market. I think Nelson has one more contract with the Packers and Cobb two contracts.

Nelson is harder to replace than Cobb as WR. Notice, I said WR. 🙂

Interesting topic to revisit ~8 months later. I know we were instructed to pick just one, however, I am among those who firmly believe (as stated above) the Packers will retain both. Jordy signed I think for five years and $43 million and I could see a four or five year deal for Cobb bringing home around ~$7 million per year.

Randall Cobb embodies the whole "Packer People" thing the administration implies. He's bought into the (brainwashing) Packer Way, he's a good citizen in the community and he's a good team player who puts the team first and equally important is he produces on the football field.
