GREEN BAY, Wis. — Wrapping up the Green Bay Packers' 2014 NFL draft:

Best move: Even though much of the pre-draft focus was on improving the defense — something general manager Ted Thompson did by taking Alabama's Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the first round (No. 21 overall) — he did not ignore the other side of the ball. He wisely added depth to the receiving core with the highly productive Davante Adams of Fresno State in the second round (No.

Ted went 5 offense (4 pass catchers) ...and only 4 defense, including two very curious selections in Thornton and Goodson. I'm not surprised he went offense but 4 guys who catch the ball is pretty surprising...that's almost half his draft on pass catchers.

An odd draft that I still can't warm up to but I'm trying. I do like Bradford, Abby and Janis as value picks. Think Thornton was a Cletidus Hunt type reach and Goodson a waste as he'll soon be 25. Linsley was baffling to me as well as Richard Rodgers with Rodgers probably the most curious of the entire draft. Dix is a Saban's Bama defender and they almost never work out. I hope against hope Adams ain't the WR version of Alex Green.

I read one website that thought we had the best draft but it's some unknown deal with little credibility.

Our UDFA crop looks very unimpressive compared to years past. I think the hits to our front office have really taken their toll. Perhaps, Ted overworked himself to try and compensate. I'm guessing but I think this is TT's last draft as GM of the Green Bay Packers and will announce he's done at the end of the upcoming season.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

I don't know what to make of some of his picks, but he did get some good players. Though there was no question he let need play a big part of his decision making, I'm left wondering how often this really does happen.

I absolutely hated our C and CB picks, but what do I know? I felt we had far better options at those selection points. Also felt we had BAL, PIT and ARI in front of us nabbing many of our targets

Wrapping this up, we landed the best S in Clinton-Dix and the most productive WR in the draft in Adams, who looks like a Sterling Sharpe clone to me. We hit on a NT/DT/DE prospect we have to simply trust will be good. Added one of the most productive TEs in the draft with the best YAC, and exceptional cut blocking skills. Adding the OLB Bradford was interesting. He does play with abandon and was effective. Abbrederis and Janis make us one of the deepest WR groups in the NFL. Abby also doubles as a reliable KR.

I feel we are still deficient at both ILB and NT, and that we could have found a better CB prospect. Hoping this is not the case. Thought our D could have been bolstered a bit better.

Like the Rams getting Aaron Donald, they didn't necessarily need a DT but I don't doubt he was easily the best player on their board. That's an easy decision to make.

Every team needs good players. That is why you always draft the best player available. It is quite simple.

Now it is up to the coaches to maximize the talent these players have.

Well, just as soon as I post something like that, I'm having to take something back...

Just read the Journal stories on C Corey Linsley and CB Demetri Goodson. I didn't realize how strong the Linsley kid is, AND, that "he's a really good long snapper," according to Campen.

Now THAT could prove to be very valuable, especially if he can take over for our LS specialist Brett Goode, and save us a roster spot. I've always felt giving that valuable roster spot to a guy who does nothing but LS was kind of foolish. Adding a C who can also LS is a great idea, allowing for that valuable roster spot to be used to keep a more valuable player.

The Goodson kid is a project they want to assume much along the same lines as Sam Shields. Guess they did fine with that one, so why not try it again? I just don't know we needed to take him that high.

As a general rule I don't really like taking 5th year seniors unless they were injured in their 4th year and did a medical red shirt. Most of the time players with real talent come out after their 3rd or 4th year in college no matter how much eligibility they have left. Players who stay in tend to have already reached their max potential. Goodson being 25 may fall into that group. Hopefully there is still some upside to him.

One of the things we will never know but I think about, what would this draft have looked like if GB had lost 1 or 2 more games. Their needs would be exactly the same as what they are right now but they would have been picking in the 10th or 14th spot instead of 21st.

I keep thinking about a couple of things:
1. cannot experience a Ted Thompson draft without getting really disappointed, initially, then having to walk back my reactionary statements after reviewing his selections. Happens every year. I usually feel better once I've figured out who these players are, and hearing their rationale for picking them.

2. I think after all these years, Ted has earned the right to take a flyer or two. Usually does this later rounds, minimizing risks if they don't pan out, but maximizing value if they do.

This last bit always, always leaves me walking away from draft day feeling weirdly reserved, thinking he sometimes makes this a bit harder than it needs to be.

Those later round picks can be super important. Oh, well. That's just me, and I do think we are a far better team today than we were last week, and I support his decisions. The guy is ALL about his job as GM of the Packers, always trying his best.

Zero2Cool (5h) : Malik to start. Love inactive. Per report. Let's go!!
buckeyepackfan (6h) : I think J-10VE will be inactive, a little twist that could be put in is run a wildcat with Wicks at qb. Have him as emergency qb if needed.
Zero2Cool (22h) : I think that's how it works.
Zero2Cool (23h) : I'd go 3 QB regardless this game.
Zero2Cool (23h) : Clifford was elevated, not activated. He doesn't play, it doesn't count.
hardrocker950 (21-Sep) : If Clifford is active, not likely to see Jordan play this weekend
Mucky Tundra (21-Sep) : QB Sean Clifford and CB Robert Rochell elevated from the PS for the Titans game
Zero2Cool (20-Sep) : Love questionable. Morgan is out. Valentine is doubtful
Martha Careful (20-Sep) : Rodgers and Lazard off to a very strong start
Zero2Cool (19-Sep) : Josh Jacobs. Limited.
Zero2Cool (19-Sep) : Can't find anything on Jacobs :(
wpr (19-Sep) : Do you know if they gave Jacobs an extra day off? I hope so.
Zero2Cool (19-Sep) : WR Jayden Reed (calf) and G Elgton Jenkins (illness/glute) returned after sitting out Wednesday.

Zero2Cool (18-Sep) : Practicing is Jordan Love!
Zero2Cool (18-Sep) : Packers are signing WR Cornelius Johnson to the Practice Squad per sources. Johnson was a 7th round pick this year.
Zero2Cool (17-Sep) : Packers placed RB MarShawn Lloyd on injured reserve.
Zero2Cool (16-Sep) : Rams won’t have Cooper Kupp or Puka Nacua when they host the Packers in Week 5.

Mucky Tundra (15-Sep) : Hope the Texans beat the brakes off the Bears
Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : LaFleur: “I asked Malik why he didn’t throw it on that third down and he told me Josh threw up on the ball.”

Mucky Tundra (15-Sep) : Oh my, marvin harrison jr might be as good as he was billed out to be

Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : Oh yeah, for sure. That's just not fair thoguh.
Mucky Tundra (15-Sep) : Zero, what I meant was that surely a tech and IT genius such as yourself would find a way to change the pick
Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : Well, I mean, I know I did, but might not have waited for it to register and went into Chat. Oh well
Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : Or so I thought I did. lol
Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : I had Colts for few days to throw everyone off. At 11am or so, I changed it to Packers.
