They still have 4 solid wideouts and if Ted Thompson feels the need to pick up another WR he can do so in the 4-7th rounds.

This is what I was advocating as well. Heck, given Finley's performance yesterday, it looks like he could more than replace Martin's output. It's unfortunate, though -- I don't think Martin was ever given a fair shake.

Today of all days to play mind games with me. My day began at 3:37 AM with a phone, "Dad, I am calling to tell you that I am ok."

I looked at the time stamp on the earlier post. I knew my post was at 11 AM because I noticed how go.pack.go got his reply posted 2 minutes before mine.
For about 1 1/2-2 minutes I was convinced that I was more shook up than I realized.

I'm all about Orakpo right now. I think as a rookie he can get some good playing time in switching up with Jenkins at RDE, and be RDE on 3rd downs when Jenkins moves into a DT position. I just hope he falls to us. I may be up for Thompson making a move upwards to get him, if necessary.

Hopefully Raji falls to us in the 2nd. Who knows. I have a gut feeling he will underperform at the combines and therefore be underrated going into the draft. If not, his counterpart Brace could be available in the 3rd or so. One reason Raji was able to be so aggressive as a DT was because Brace consistently took on double teams and clogged up the middle. He plays STRONG and disciplined. He could be a good replacement for Pickett as Pickett gets on in years. Keep an eye on him as we get closer to the draft.

I'm sure Thompson will draft 1 or 2 LB's to compete in the mid to late rounds as well. It's his position of course, and he likes to draft them for special teams etc..

My 2c for now.

Just google "2009 mock drafts" and a lot of them have Orakpo going before we even pick at #9.

And then understand that you're perusing these mock drafts purely for entertainment value. I spend as much time as anybody on mock draft sites, and while they can give you a feel for what range a player might go in, they tend to be one of the least accurate predictors out there....especially this early. Free agency will change team needs, underclassmen declaring will change player rankings, and the combine will shoot players up and down in the draft order.

Oh, this makes my osts fail miserably.

Looking at these mock drafts (I know, I know, it's still early) both players won't be anywhere close to the 9th position. No Oher or Orakpo for us this way.

We can hope for a bad combine, imo, coaches put way to much trust into these combine results. Jerry Rice actually ran a 4.5 or 4.6 if I'm correct... and look where that got him....

EDIT : What I do see though, is that Raji usually falls somewhere between 10-15 in these mock drafts, I wouldn't mind us getting a premier DT either.

What I also see is that Stafford is going Nr. 1 on alot of those.... The kid is going to get killed behind that Lions O-line. He'll be running for his life all season long. I see another Joey Harrington coming up.

Okay, Orakpo, I need you to run a 8.6 40 and have only about 5 reps on the bench press. Oh and while you're at it, only jump about 5 inches on the high jump. Also, act like you're bad on your feet. By doing all of this, I will guarantee you that you'll be picked at #9.

^^That's what Ted Thompson should tell him.
