The financial commitment shows that Freeman will be given every chance to claim the job. For a full year, the pay projects to a base salary of $4.25 million. That’s more than twice Matt Cassel’s $1.65 million for the year. It’s nearly three times Christian Ponder’s base salary of $1.29 million.

When it is all said and done.. this will be a better signing for the Vikings than McNabb could have ever hoped to be.. my opinion of course.

I was a bit worried when we signed Freeman. I'm worried he'll play just mediocre enough to make us pass on drafting a QB next spring. I'm happy that his signing is a sign we might finally be moving away from the Ponder era, but there's no guarantee Freeman will stay here long term or that we'll even keep him if he doesn't improve drastically over his performance on Monday night.

IMO Freeman looked pretty good in the pocket, good foot work, escapability, kept his eyes down field when he scrambled around, but good golly that accuracy was cringe worthy. Worse than Joe Webb in fact. You guys remember Webb don't you lol? Yeah you're welcome. But yeah Freeman appears to have the tools to be good, now if he can only tame that wild arm. Or have I just been held hostage by crappy QB's for too long to know what a good QB looks like? Heck I thought Cassel looked good vs the Steelers, but compared to Ponder even Tebow might look good.
