Wide receiver James Jones, three games into his seventh season with the Green Bay Packers, is in the last year of a three-year deal with the team that will pay him almost $3 million this year.

...

Jones and Jordy Nelson were asked about the criticism of Rodgers by former Packers receivers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver.

"It was disappointing," Nelson said. "I think it's shocking when anyone outside our locker room talks about any of our players, whoever it is."

Said Jones: "We were brothers. That's what makes me so mad about it. Because we were brothers. When you leave, you don't talk about your brother."

I was assured, when my deal was up, that we were going to keep things in place. Signing those guys is going to be a top priority.

"It's not up to me," Jones said. "I would love to finish my career here, go on and help them win some more Super Bowls in a perfect world. But, we'll see."

Ah...the infamous "I want to stay here but it is not up to me" line. Excuse me, in the vast majority of cases it is up to you. The Packers will most likely offer you a deal next year and it will be up to you if you want to accept it or not. The second part of the quote is fine. The part about finishing your career here and more Super Bowls, that's awesome. That's the kind of thing that endears you to the fans. Even the "in a perfect world" and the "we will see" are OK. In a perfect world the Packers offer Jones what he wants and he stays. In an imperfect world maybe the Packers get cheap or Jones gets greedy and he moves on but that is what we shall see. I'm certainly not saying every player should accept every offer they if they can make more elsewhere but don't try to make it sound like you don't have any options. You have options, the choice is yours, IT IS UP TO YOU.

The whole thing about Jennings and Driver is stupid. Of course Jones is going to say what he did. He is still a member of the team and if, like he says, he wants to stay a member he will toe the line. If Jones (or Nelson or Cobb or Finley or anyone else of high stature) moves on to another team it wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear some negative comments about Rodgers. You just don't say those things about a team mate if you want to remain a team mate. Do you think Jennings just woke up one day after he signed with the vikings and said " gee, you know what? Now that I think about it Aaron Rodgers was not that great of a team mate." Do you think Donald Driver just heard Jennings' comments and said "Hmmmm, I never really thought about it before but you know what, There is a bit of truth to what Greg is saying" No, those negative thoughts, if there were any, were formed while they were with the Packers and if there is any validity to them you can bet other players are thinking them as well. Now that does not mean they WILL say anything about it if they leave but but it certainly would not surprise me.

I've got a feeling both Jones and Nelson realize they would be hard pressed to find a better sitation anywhere. I think they both know they will never be a #1 in the terms of Fitz, Calvin or AJ, so they are satisfied being part of the Group, like Drivers was. Only places I would even consider would be NE with Brady, Denver with Peyton or NO with Drew.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

You can bet that Jordy Nelson and James Jones are peaking on Greg Jennings departure. I bet that helps them both decide to stay in that sexy green and gold. What's up!

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
