GB sure could have used him @ RB last year.

Hello everyone, I came onto this forum to get updates on Sam Barrington. I have known him since his junior year in HS here in Jacksonville, Florida. So far, he has been doing well in hopes of making the final 53.

It seems very likely that a number of you may have been at camp and could give me the assessment I can't get from here in Florida. In the event he makes the team, I'll be in Lambeau in December! Thanks.

I guess the first thing you may want to know, if you already don't, is that The Packers GM Ted Thompson LOVES his draft picks. The Packers are definately a draft and develope organization these days.
Ted will give young guys every chance to stick with the team.

Currently The Packers LBing crew looks like this.

Mathews, Hawk, B. Jones and Perry are the llisted starters.
Manning, Francois and Moses are backup holdovers from last year.

Those 7 are probably locks for the final 53.

Mike Neal is a D-Lineman who has been seeing some action at LB in practice.

The Packers will probably keep 9 or 10 Lbr's

That leaves at least 1, but could be as many as 3 spots open for Lbr's

Packers drafted Nate Palmer in the 6th rnd and Sam in the 7th rnd.

They also have UDFA Andy Mulumba and Rookie Camp invitees Donte Savage and Jarvis Reed on the 90 man roster.

Sams best chance to make the final 53 is to impress on Special Teams, I did see him late in The Cardinal game and he made a couple of nice plays.

Just My Opinion, I think Sam has a good chance of making it on the final 53, if not he will almost definately end up on The Practice Squad.

If Barrington can cover TEs, he makes the team.

Here's my final 53 prediction.

I have them keeping 8 LBs, 4 inside and 4 outside. Haven't heard Nate Palmer's name called much, although he seemed to look ok lat night, from what little I saw of him.

I have Barrington and Manning as the backup ILBs.

Savage sounds like he could make the team or end up on the PS.

Nice summery Buck. My uninformed opinion is that Sam makes it as well. ESPECIALLY due to ST play. Uncle Teddy loves LBers and those who can play ST get bonus points.

I know he's willing to do what's necessary to make the team. The coaches want him inside, but special teams is just as important. He respects the game and organization and has put forth a serious effort in his attempt to impress. On the 4th of July weekend, he came home to Jax. We were talking about how things were going. This is the kind of guy GB has: He brought out a playbook which was easily 6 inches high. From that playbook, he copied EVERY play and responsibility into his own binder. He said by writing every play long handed, it reinforced the information he acquired. I never heard of anyone who copied an already big playbook in hopes of making the info stick even more! During OTA's, he'd stay up past 11pm studying his playbook.

Coaches are aware of his improvement, I simply tell him to ignore the compliments. Let it go in one ear and out the other; concentrate on consistency and knowing his assignments. I know he's an excellent athlete, he just has to execute on the field.

As for his showing at the combine, he gained nearly 10 pounds in water weight between the day he landed in Indy and his workout. He said it may have been the result of an allergic reaction from something he ate. As you all may know, he did consistent 4.6 at his pro day. There is footage of his pro day on youtube as well.

Ted didn't sign Francois to a new contract just so he could cut him and lose any money toward the 2013 salary cap.

Bishop, Smith, Walden and Zombo were let go, they weren't offered new contracts.

Charles Woodson was let go, he wasn't offered a new contract.

Ted's track record shows the guys he offers 2nd and 3rd contracts to, are the guys he wants to keep.

You could be right about only keeping 8 LBr's, which is exactly what I said, only I left the option of up to 2 more because in 2011 there were 10 lbr's on the roster.

The Packers love their backup lbr's and te's to be able to excel on special teams.

The ability to cover te's is not what is going to get Sam Barrington a spot on the final 53.

His ability to be assignment sure, showing he can continue to progress and CONTRIBUTE ON SPECIAL TEAMS is what will land him on the final 53.

Barrington is in a battle with 3 other lbr's and prob 3 te's for the final 3 or 4 spots on the final 53.

Firstcoast was asking about information on how Sam was doing and his probability on making the team.

I was trying to give that info: as best I could, using Teds past record and player performances so far this year.

I like Sam Barrington a lot. He plays with some purpose and instincts, which I love to see from our LBs. I think he, Palmer and Malumba make this team. He's looking like the front runner of those three thus far.

Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
