One player who lost his helmet in the madness was Barrington, who hasn't been bashful all camp. Since drawing the ire of McCarthy Day 1 in pads for his wincing hit of Jeremy Ross, Barrington has been making noise in this inside-running drill.
The drill, he said, is "real football." A few linemen on each side smack into each other with a running back carrying the ball.
"If you're a linebacker, a fullback, a lineman, if you don't love that drill, something's got to be wrong with you," Barrington said. "That just shows how much this team wants to compete and get better and sometimes it gets heated. But I guarantee it's nothing personal. It's all about love and it's just football.
"You have to go in there and get your fit. This is the NFL. So if you half-step, you might get put on your butt. You have to go in there and give it all you've got. But at the same time, you have to be smart and not do anything foolish to hurt your team."
