In my opinion, McCarthy called a very good game. Going for it on the 4th down with the fake punt, and then again going for it from the 5 yard line with Deshawn Wynn.

I will not change my vote. I will say, however, that after last night's performance, if Mike McCarthy's team does not have a winning season next year, unless there are some incredibly extenuating circumstances, I will chorus calling for him to be canned. If he can't show enough confidence in his quarterback to give him a chance to win the game, despite giving him a $65 million contract, he needs to go.

You mean like Mike Sherman?

(What about Ray Rhodes too?)

I've expressed vocal disagreement with firing Mike Sherman after one losing season and Ray Rhodes after a single 8-8 season. I think it sets a bad precedent.

Now if you want to say Sherman was fired for poor performance as a GM, that's another issue.

Ray Rhodes lost control of his football team and that was well documented.

Mike Sherman took over a very stout football team and over five years drove it's head into the ground. Look at every year he was there and you see a distinct decline. We went from a team that should have beat the Eagles and probably won the SB to a team that couldn't beat a wild-card team at home.

Owners and GM's have to look at where teams are going and in MS's case it was clear.

This year we have lost a boat load of last minute games to some pretty darn good football teams after a great year last season when we were the ones that came out on top in the close ones.

I have no doubt we will tweak this team and come out next year kicking everybody's butt in the North and then go from there. I really don't think there is a lot of doubt in the minds of those in the front office of this either.

My sentiments exactly. Especially given the upcoming draft, which should be rich in OLmen and DLmen, I firmly believe this team will be the class of the NFC and probably in the elite of the NFL overall.

Speaking of which, I think the balance of power in the NFL is slowly but surely shifting toward the NFC. I think the AFC's reign of dominance may be drawing to a close.

So I take it neither were you impressed with the same 20+ wins vs 3 losses over two years or whatever insane numbers they were?

I happen to think the team is made up of collectively high character people that will take the challenge of an insane number of close calls that resulted in losses to create a resolve that carries over to next season.

We SHOULD have beaten some of the best teams the NFL has to offer this year in teams like Tennessee and Carolina. Not COULDA beaten them if this or that went just right. SHOULD have beaten them. Along with games like last night that mirror imaged how this year has gone.

Look. We could have gone out there last night after several close hard losses and basically quit. The Bears had everything to play for and we had squat. Did that happen? No. We out spirited the Bears and outplayed them. We simply played harder than they did. Show of character? Preview of things to come? I believe so. I stand by what I say. We go out next year and kick the Norths big wide butt and take back what's ours.

Well, that's the thing. Even in '05, we lost a lot of games that we SHOULD have won. Weren't we something like 1-6 at one point and had more PF than PA because we kept losing close games, games we SHOULD have won?

I am not saying fire anyone right now. But I will say that SOMEONE needs to be scolded after this year. This is not acceptable. We have a good team. Aaron, Gregorious, Donald, Kampy, Woody, and Collins are all outstanding players. Nick is good (but injured). AJ's got skills but he looks overwhelmed out there because he's simply doing too much. I think the fault lies on the lines. Aaron's taking too many hits. Our LBs are overwhelmed because the DL is not doing their job. And for the love of God, someone please motivate this team. It's like half the team is fired up and the other half is going through their motions while being half-lost.
