I'd like to see the following:
Mays, Cushing, Maualug, Orakpo, Johnson or Curry if possible in no particular order. I love Hawk, but would be scared to take Laurinaitis just for the simple fact they both are from OSU.

Wouldn't that be something? If we got James Laurinaitis. Is he a MLB or a OLB?

Maybe if we switched to a 3-4 defense then we could draft him and have: Laurinitis, Hawk, Barnett, Chillar. I don't know if we should, though. It could cause controversy over the OLB spot with Hawk already there.

Preferably someone who can play more than two games a year.

I am not really concerned at names at this point. I think the team is sitting on about 9 picks as of now. If that is correct I want 5 Olinemand and 4 Dlineman.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

yeah a good line backer would be nice. Maualuga or laurinitis wouldn't be bad.

Laurinitus is a beast. We would have a ton of depth at LB if we take any of these guys though.

Laurinitis is a good player....excellent athleticism and all over the field with textbook wrap tackles. That said, he lacks the ONE thing I want in any player we draft on defense...or offense for that matter....a nasty attitude.

This team needs a spark plug type player who sets the tone on physicallity and overall temberment. You know, someone like Wayne Simmons or Mike Douglass.

We are on the cusp of being a very soft/finesse team in a very physical division/conference....not a combination I am comfortable with.

As much as I like MM, I have to ask.....where is that "Pittsburgh Tough" we were sold?

What's nice is that need and best available seem to matchup pretty well in our draft position. I think we all agree that we could use a lineman on both sides of the ball. This is a very deep draft for OTs, so while we could have a shot at one of the top 3 OT, it might make sense to wait until round 2, where there should still be some good ones available.

Depending on how the draft plays out, it's possible we have our choice DL, though one guy (Johnson or Orakpo) could be off the board a that time. Either way, we can get what we need at the 10 spot.

Added bonus, not only are lineman immediate needs, but if you take a look at expiring contracts over the next two years, many of them are lineman. Lineman shapes up to be best available, immediate need, and future need to replace current starters. The stars are aligned perfectly.

Of course, all of this could be affected if Ted decides to bring in Gross, Peppers, Haynesworth, Suggs, etc. But for now, it looks like taking the best lineman on either side of the ball would be the way to go.

Other options: (not saying I agree with all of them, but they are options)

1. We may have a shot at a shutdown corner. Even with Tramon and Pat Lee, you'd still have to take a look given Chuck and Al's age. I would guess that drafting a corner would almost certainly mean the end of Al's time in GB. We all love Al, but releasing a 33 yr old corner, replacing him with a young stud, and freeing up money to go after a D-lineman isn't terrible strategy.

2. Taylor Mays wouldn't be a huge need, but if you think he's a Troy Polamolu or Bob Sanders type SS, I could see the desire to put him next to Nick. I'm okay with Atari, but I suppose Mays could be a viable option.

3. Michael Crabtree. This is the furthest thing we have from a need, but if he were to drop, he would be the best player available. Ultimately, I wouldn't pull the trigger, but I think you'd have to at least take a look. Jennings/Crabtree would give Aaron a Fitzgerlad/Boldin like duo for the next 5 years (assuming Greg is signed long term.)

4. Trade down. Ted will look for this option, and not just because that's his MO. There's just not a ton of difference between the guys at 10 and the guys in the low 20s. There is a big difference in the price tag though.

Draftek Sim Round 1

Drafttek has us picking 9th. I thought we were 8th?

Look at this ugly computer-generated pick. I think it was go.pack.go. that asked me who the heck this guy was...

I can answer that question...he's our 1st pick in the draft. lol

The horror if this comes true...
