I'd have more sympathy for him if he wasn't skipping OTAs.

just to refresh our memory and compare here is Tramon's salary from Rotoworld :

Signed a five-year, $38.148 million contract.
The deal contains $11.074 million guaranteed, including a $6 million signing bonus.
2013: $5.9 million (+ $300,000 roster bonus),
2014: $6.9 million (+ $300,000 roster bonus),
2015: Free Agent

I think they (Shields and Rosenbutt) want something similar. Why wouldn't they? But not years 2011 and 2012 which not doubt were less than 2013 and 2014.

Reading the old rotoworld posts. Tramon (a RFA as well) held out until the last minute before signing his tender offer in June 2010. It is just business.

Shields is a great player. Period.

This half a season BS is just that. BS. In 2011, Shields had 4 INTs, 13 PDs, 1 FF and 38 Tackles, in 15 games played during a season where we nearly went undefeated. Everybody in the world was throwing on our asses...

Forget that we had NO pass rush that year, and might as well forget what that does to a team's secondary (hangs 'em out to dry, maybe?). He greatly improved his tackling last season in run D, not statistically, but it was readily apparent in watching him play. If you didn't see it, then you weren't watching. Sam is a young, quality corner with exceptional experience at the position for his age.

I think one of the bigger problems in ironing out a deal is that Ted has done so well in adding talent at CB over the past 3 years. He has so much leverage that he literally could let him walk without us skipping much of a beat IMO. This is just business, and I think Ted will more than likely lock him up with a huge deal that will keep him in GB for what should be the prime of his career. Whatever those numbers are now, they will seem reasonable 3 years down the line. Ted values quality CBs, but Ted ALWAYS plays to his leverage.

Locking up Shields will insure quality CB play for a good many years, regardless of how Tramon Williams transitions the ending of his own career. I think we just hope for the best here. Either the numbers don't work for Ted and he plays his hand out with Shields, or he pony's up and we are insured of quality play at the position, with a very deep roster of DBs, for at least the next 4 years.

The other consideration is the drive and character of the player. Is Shields a Donald Driver type personality that works to play at the highest level he can regardless of the check he gets or is he a Javon Walker who demanded big bucks after one good year and never had another one?

The guy couldn't tackle the water boy running out on time outs and had to work to get his starting job last year.
Ted Thompson has repeatedly shown the players that if they just go out and play he will get the money right. I think Shields is forcing the issue after playing well the last half of last year. Make it known you want more money and go show you deserve it and I am sure before the season is over you get your wish.

I have a feeling Shields will get paid but it will be at the expense of Tramon Williams. Maybe Tramon is a cap casualty at the end of this year rather than playing out his contract.

Shields just doesn't have much leverage, unless he wants to sit out a year. I'm sure the Packers would like to work out a deal to keep both players.

People, People, this is a clear cut case of a lack of patience. The Cake is still in the oven; The stew ain't stew yet; This is all part of the negotiating process, and it will come to a happy ending. Ted Thompson routinely tries low-balling players; The result almost always is the job gets done for a fair but slightly less than max amount. Shields would not be expected to show up at the OTAs while delicate negotiating is going on. He also would not be expected to avoid trumpeting his achievements and asking for big money. That's the way the game is played.

dfosterf (7h) : tell her I reckon
dfosterf (7h) : Micah Robinson cut. Probable PS player tomorrow. Has to call mom back and t
Zero2Cool (10h) : New site so much better. Might make switch and deal with it.
dfosterf (10h) : Mecole Hardman to our practice squad
dfosterf (10h) : Nick Nieman from Texans our 5th linebacker. Special teams signing
TheKanataThrilla (11h) : Looks like we signed Clayton Tune as QB3
wpr (12h) : TKT people lose their minds over QB3. Point is almost none of them are ready that's why they are on the PS and other teams don't take them.
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Unfortunately he doesn't seem ready to be an emergency QB.
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : As a Canadian and a follower of Canadian University football. I am rooting for him
dfosterf (13h) : I bet a lot of us will follow the Taylor Elgersma journey with interest. Personally, got a Kurt Warner vibe goin' on. I like him
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Not sure if either will be claimed though.
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Tune or Hooker would make sense
dfosterf (13h) : Clayton Tune cut by the Cards? Don't know if that's the guy, we shall see
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Per Bill Huber, the Packers will not be bringing back Taylor Elgersma or Sean Clifford on the practice squad, so a new third quarterback
Mucky Tundra (14h) : Schefter must have deleted his tweet
dfosterf (15h) : Hopefully Jerry reaches under the seat cushions and ashtrays of his jet and scrapes up the 45 million apr and spares us further nonsense
dfosterf (15h) : Have to admit the PO'd Cowboy fan videos would be fun to watch. Problem with draft picks is half their fanbase barely knows what that is
beast (16h) : I think Cowboys fans are ready to get their pitch forks and burning sticks if Jerry were to trade Micah
dfosterf (16h) : If Jerry traded Micah to GB, here in northern Va. they would have to quick build yet another data center to handle the internet hate traffic
Zero2Cool (16h) : its signing and trades that you don't hear about, other then announced
Zero2Cool (16h) : If you hear rumors about Packers sign or trade, won't happen. Not how they work
dfosterf (16h) : 19 players in a contract year. Jones called loss to us worst loss in Cowboy history. Forget Parsons trade. Not happenin' Cap'n
packerfanoutwest (18h) : The Packers, meanwhile, are the youngest team in the league for the third consecutive year.
dfosterf (20h) : That it was darkest before the dawn in Bengals and Commanders before they got deals done
Zero2Cool (20h) : what is Schefter saying?
dfosterf (20h) : He was getting Dorito infusion therapy
dfosterf (20h) : He's outta shape. Why, just the other day I saw him splayed out on the trainers table
Mucky Tundra (27-Aug) : Parsons has followed Rasheed Walker on Twitter. Quite the choice
Mucky Tundra (27-Aug) : Kuhn is a former player who works for the team, if somethings going down, he would be close to it
Mucky Tundra (27-Aug) : @kuhnj30 Micah Freaking Parsons
Mucky Tundra (27-Aug) : A LOT of buzz on the Bird App regarding Parsons; even Schefter is saying it's serious

Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : haha folks on Tweeter every year this time ... 'where is list Packers!!" hahaha
wpr (26-Aug) : He played pretty good.
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : NAZIR STACKHOUSE HAS MADE THE 53
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : NOOOOO KALEN IS GONE
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : Kalen King and Kamal Hadden making it. me thinks
schroeder84 (26-Aug) : @dfosterf I suspect Elgersma WILL be hard to hide. Raw, but talented
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : pp.com is broken, halt testing, gotta go do work things for a bit
hardrocker950 (26-Aug) : Mecole Hardman was released, to the surprise of few
