Sorry, but I don't believe any runningback could win ROY with Mike McCarthy calling the plays.
And that would be if Barry Sanders were a rookie at this time, or say AP.
His (MM) disdain for the running game should preclude such thinking.

Gotta have more commitment to the run than McCarthy does to get the hardware.

I'm sure the players care about the award, but I'm sure they'd be wiling to forgo an individual award for a Super Bowl ring.

The Packers continually have one of the best offenses in the NFL despite a lack of talented runners. McCarthy has shown that he will run the ball when he has a talented back to work with. If Lacy or Franklin end up in the top 10 in rushing yards they will most certainly be in the race for rookie of the year considering how unimpressive this years QB class looks.

I will be thrilled if Lacy:

  • Stays Healthy and Available
  • Can carry a healthy share of the carries
  • Between him and Franklin, one develops into a third down back that can effectively pass block
  • Did I mention stays on the field. lol.

Even being in the ROY talk would far outpace my expectations.

Still, I know what you mean. To be a top back you have to get the consistent carries and it remains to be seen whether McCarthy can commit to that. I do feel that he got away from it once Grant was lost and we had no legitimate ball carrier. If Lacy can be that guy I don't think McCarthy will have a problem using him.
