It's a little early, but the 2013 draft might contain a special treat for Green Bay Packers fans, namely a shot at a Packers rookie getting the prestigious Offensive NFL Rookie Of The Year Award.  Last year's draft was basically all defense with only BJ Coleman and Andrew Datko getting picked in the 7th round, [...]

Seems like only "skill position" players are on this guy's list. Don't O Linemen get any love hahaha?

I agree, Eddie Lacy is as likely or more than any of those to be offensive R.O.Y.

This is really hard because had we not drafted Franklin, I would agree with the OP. However since we did draft Franklin, I really don't see it happening because 1. Franklin could outplay Lacy and instead he could be a candidate for ROTY. or 2. Those two just balance each other out and neither really sticks out. Either way though I'm happy and excited for having both these players on our team! I believe ROTY or not, both these guys will contribute right away and finally give us the balance we've always wanted and give us a true dual threat offense. We might be the most dangerous offense this year if everything pans out.

I really don't care if he wins ROTY or not. (or Franklin, or Datone Jones 🙂 ) It would be great, but if they can make our running game better than the last 3 years i'll be a happy camper.

Associated Press' Offense rookie of the year has always been won by a QB, RB or WR since 1967...

only Packer to win it was RB John Brockington in 1971.

On defense
CB Willie Buchanon in 1972.
S Tom Flynn in 1984.

The United Press which started a little early has some more Packers offense guys,

Flanker Boyd Dowler in 1959.
Kicker Chester Marcol in 1972.

Smith is probably the front runner just as much because he plays for the Jets as for his ability. If he starts and plays well enough to get the Jets into the playoffs that may be enough unless some other player lights it up. I don't see Lacy or Franklin lighting it up enough for two reasons, first, they will have to compete with each other in addition to Harris and second, no matter how much we get excited about a running game this will ALWAYS be a pass first team. If Lacy can get heavily involved in the passing game it will obviously help him a lot.

Austin has a better shot than Patterson IMO because he has a better QB throwing to him and he will most likely be the main focus of the passing game in St Louis. Still its tough for WRs to stand out heads and shoulders above the RBs and QBs which I think it is what it will take for a WR to win it.

Believe it or not, I think the guy with the best chance is Montee Ball. I think he will be the guy in Denver and the Broncos are not afraid to run the ball (no pun intended.) I just think his situation is better than the others so he will have far less pressure on him than any of the QBs or the other RBs.

Like GCB says though, I really don't care if they don't win the award. If the make the running game better that's all I really care about and even if they are being talked about for the award that can only be a good thing.

This is all well and good, but let's not jinx the guy.

Let him suit up and get on the field before we crown him.
