If Mike McCarthy is fired at the end of next season, it won't be because of injuries, it won't be because of turnovers, it won't be because of missed field goals. It will be because he plays not to lose.

How on earth would you have called a different game on offense?

The season was already over. In the waning moments, put the ball in Rodgers' hand and let him make a play. Game after game, McCarthy tries to run out the clock and kick a field goal, instead of letting the best red-zone QB in the league toss one into the end zone. It shows an unconscionable of confidence in his QB -- it's a slap in the face, really.

Also, someone please explain to me why we're tossing long bombs early in the game on first downs and then handing off on thirds-and-long.

"all_about_da_packers" wrote:

The only handoff I remember on third and long was on a third and 19, when the crowd was really into it and something bad was very likely to happen if the Packers had tried to pick up the first down. That happens sometimes.

I'm up in the air about how McCarthy managed that last drive. When we got the ball, my feeling was that we needed a TD, not a field goal. Be aggressive. Your kicker already botched one earlier in the game. But the three handoffs were pretty standard NFL practice in that situation. The Bears did the exact same thing in the exact same position in OT, but their kicker made the damn thing--kicked it nice and high right down the middle. Crosby kicked a worm-burner.

The bright side is it's almost over. Now I hope the Bears get in the playoffs, keep the Vikings winless in the NFC North.

Fire McCarthy. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEEE

In all these years I've never seen a coach turn into such a pansy in the 4th quarter 4 WEEKS IN A ROW

"gopackgo212" wrote:

Did you happen to see the Bills / Jets game a couple of weeks back?

Inside two minutes, Bills have Losman drop back to pass, gets sacked, fumbles, and the Jets D picks it up and runs it back for the TD. Jets win the game.

ALL OTHER NFL COACHES WOULD PLAY IT SAFE. Lovie did the exact same thing, he game it Forte, and Forte worked his magic and got them closer to FG range. Then Gould hit the winning FG in OT.

McCarthy just did what any coach in the NFL would do in the same situation, you can't blame him for that IMO.

And that's hardly an isolated instance. We'e seen McCarthy play like this when he's up by as little as 3. Maybe he's intending to show an arrogant sort of confidence in his defense, but he just looks like the timid kid who's so afraid saying the wrong thing that he never says anything. It's irksome.

Grow some balls, McCarthy.
